I thought I might give it a try but looking at some recipes, it seems very calorific. I saw a recipe for pomegranate and herb salad and it was 741 Kcal per person, seems very high. Has anyone used it in a calorie controlled diet?

Forget calories, just eat well and don't worry about "fat". You need to eat "good" fat and calorie controlled diets often tell you to avoid those... which is insane and why 'diets' don't work.

Quinoa is fabulous... enjoy it.

Hummm, can't say I noticed, but you're right, that is probably where the calories are. I'm going to by a box tomorrow and try it.

Quinoa is wonderful stuff - low GI, gluten free and low in saturated fat. Looks like fluffy sheep when cooked! I love it with anything a bit saucy, especially stir fry.

I read somewhere that quinoa is the most perfect food stuff there is - ie, it has more nutrients than any other. Can't be bad, and tastes good too.

i made a vegetable curry last week and had quinoa with that, only the second time i made it [first time i put too much water in it]
very nice with the curry but bland on its own, i suppose it's probably not intended to be eaten on its own without any flavouring or accompinament?
supposed to be very good for you too isn't it?

I guess like cous cous it needs a bit of help, but if you have with chilli or curry then could probably get away with it plain, same with rice and pasta, wouldn't just eat a bowl of plain rice or pasta with nothing on it.

Ainsley does a nice one as well, not keen on ones with sultanas in though, or mint. Quite like lemony herby ones.

Never tried Quinoa, but have always fancied it ever since someone on Come Dine With Me did it as a starter. The guests wolfed it down and it looked delicious.

It was called 'Carnival Quinoa' by Kay Mcleod and the recipe can be found with a quick Google. (I'd provide a link but stupid work won't let me on Channel 4's website.)
