does anyone have line rental with Sky ??

Hi I have my line rental with BT at the moment but are getting more and more pissed off with them ringing up all the time asking me to pay more for all sorts of deals they have. I tell them I don't want them iand if I do I will phone them, they are always ringing at busy times

So I was thinking of getting my line rental with Sky as I have my TV, Phonecalls and Broadband with them already, has anyone else on here changed over, do you have to get cut off at all, and how much is it.

Thanks for reading

Hi

I switched to Sky line rental a few months ago. You don`t get cut off at all. Only thing is if you use the 1571 answer service or caller display, BT switch them off and you may need to call Sky to get them turned on again. Apart from that the switchover happens automatically. Sky offer these free anyway.
The line rental is £10 per month, so less than BT.

I've had sky line rental for almost a year, it's great, slightly cheaper especially if you have caller display. BT charged me for this, but it's free with Sky. Yep there was a glitch with caller display not working for one day, but certainly no cut off when it switched. In facxt the only reason I knew it had changed was when I called 150 I got sky instread of BT.

Go for it, and enjoy half price 16meg broadband too!

Don't know if this is true or just coincidence, but when I call sky CS for my TV the call gets answered within seconds. I havnt had a que since swapping, and you dial 150 for free for phone/broadband CS.

I have been with sky for well over 15 months - no problems at all.
It was all switched over on the day and voice mail and caller display was all working fine.

WATCH bt though - they are trying to bill me for line rental well after switch over date.

Worth the switch though

been with sky for everything now for nearly a year....much cheaper and no hastle.....only thing was that sky switched on the 1571 for me so i just had to deactivate that.

If you phone the sky CS off peak it is free as well (they just changed this as it was free all the time).

just bear in mind that BT will be sending a massive batch of junk mail on a regular basis with offers that will not even come close to what sky give you.... BT have only peed me off more since i left them!!!

I moved my line rental to Sky, but the only problem is they dont offer a facility for the blocking of mobile numbers, so if there are kids in the house, they can run up a bill.

I think they'll activate it, but the best thing to do is ask them.

I'd say give them a call, but....

I am doing the offer online through quidco, if i take the line rental with free phoneline for 12 months then i forefit the £120 quidco money back. If i have to go through bt then i will probably miss either offer

My line rental has been moved to TalkTalk but that hasn't stopped BT ringing every month or so (for almost 3 years now!).

It's always along the lines of "we've got a new offer, you get blah blah blah for only £39 a month". Every month I tell them I get a similar package from TalkTalk for £18 a month and yet they still won't listen!.

Phone BT (0800 800 800) and ask them to remove all traces of you from their systems. This they will do and you will never hear from them again.

I have been on Skytalk for nearly I year now. I find it tons better and cheaper than BT. Apart from the £10 line rental if you pay an extra £5 you get unlimited calls anytime of the day to UK and at least 20 overseas destinations.

Am I right in thinking that line rental can only be switched to Sky on an LLU exchange?

No.

You can have Sky bill you for BT line and it is actually cheaper than BT.

If you do not have Local Loop Unbundling (LLU), you will be offered Sky Broadband over the line at a much higher cost and low bandwidth.

LLU is a headache as BT will only allow this to happen at a snails pace. It costs BT to allow this and they have to let other engineers into their exchanges and they hate this.

Our area (Driffield) is due LLU sometime next century so by then, new technology will have taken over.

Not true, BT are obliged to allow access to their exchanges to other Service Providers, its part of OFCOMS rules, if a particular SP hasn't provided their own equipment in any particular exhange its because they dont think it would be worth the investment
Access to exchanges cannot be denied but most connection/disconnection to LLU is done by Openreach engineers as SP's would have to employ lots more staff if they wanted to 'connect' end users up themselves, and as its OFCOM who set the amount OR can charge the SP,then SP's use OR because its cheaper than doing it themselves

Both my parents and I have line rental with sky. However when my parents ring 150 they still get through to BT. When I dial 150 I get through to Sky and I thought this is how it should be.

Anyone know why this might not be the case for my parents, as I would also assume that since they can't get through to Sky via 150, they can't get the free calls to Sky's customer service.

Thanks in advance for any help.
