3 Mobile Broadband problems - please help!

I wonder if any FMs can help....

A friend of mine was recently made redundant from his job and he was able to keep the laptop he was using. He also kept the 3 mobile broadband dongle and has been using it for the past 2 months.

His former employer has contacted him and forwarded a bill for £350 for around 3.5 gig over his allowance. (10p per Meg)

I have a couple questions for anyone who uses this service;

Is it not true that after £50 worth of overuse your broadband should be cut off? (this was his belief)

are the bills ever produced in arrears? (more than one months usage appearing on one bill)

Thanks in advance for any help. I am aware it was a stupid thing to do but, as he is unemployed now, I am trying to help him out as best I can

thanks

Is it not possible that his old employer ignored the bill for the first month?

I think the £50 thing is yet to come. doesn't apply YET.

Hi all

The Website states

"If you are a Pay Monthly customer and you go over your allowance, you can still access the internet at broadband speeds, however you will be charged 10p per MB of data used. Once you reach £50, outside of your inclusive allowance, you will get disconnected."

nothing to suggest this WILL be happening in the future

has anyone gone over £50 and not been cut off?

I don't think so, it seems to be for just one month.....I'm more interested with how it's normally billed. are the Data charges just billed a month in arrears or can they bill 3 months in arrears?

Possibly different for what might be a business account?

It's fine that he was given the laptop, but I am rather confused why someone would be given the dongle when it would be very easy for ex-employee to cane it!

Don't 3 send a text when you go over the allowance? The desktop manager software should show when you've had a message and let you read it.

I doubt that the business terms and conditions are the same as the consumer. The software also shows you how much data you have used, so its unlikely the friend would be unaware of using so much data.

A good point. Not sure why I assumed this was a consumer contract. Oops!

(Being half 1 in the morning probably)
