OK. I'll start off with saying that I'm not a
massive fan of Taylor, although I own her 3 albums. I bought Fearless just after the Platinum Edition was released in 2009, then I bought the Taylor Swift (1st) album when I saw it while browsing HMV one day, then I pre-ordered the deluxe edition of Speak Now. So I own all three. My favourite out of them is probably Speak Now although it has tough competition from Fearless. I haven't seen Taylor live, and judging from TV performances and YouTube tour videos, her vocals can be very shaky sometimes, but she is
very young and still has plenty of room to improve.
I hope it's okay to do this song by song.
Sparks Fly: I was a little disappointed with this opening, when compared to the amazing opening on the Fearless Tour with 'You Belong With Me', I felt this was a little bit dull. Just a simple rise to the stage floor. It got the job done though and it was a nice performance.
Mine: 'Mine' isn't my favourite song from
Speak Now but this performance made me gain a new appreciation for the song.
The Story Of Us: This song is one of my absolute favourites from the album and after the single was overlooked (although it was a little bit of a sequel to 'You Belong With Me'), I was hoping for something big on the tour. It wasn't at all massive BUT it got the job done and the performance didn't at all draw away from the amazing song, but unfortunately it didn't add much to it either.
Our Song: Possibly one of my favourite songs from her debut, the performance was cute and had me feeling as warm as when I first heard the song.
Mean: The intro was one of my favourite parts of the show, a nice cute little country barn performance.
Back to December (Medley): I remember Taylor's
Speak Now release TV special and I remember her playing this song on the piano in the park underneath the bridge. Her piano skills are good and her vocals were on point, and the medley with 'Apologize' and 'You're Not Sorry' was absolutely genius, it really worked and enhanced the performance by a mile.
Better Than Revenge: Possibly my favourite song from the album, the performance of 'Better Than Revenge' was absolutely AMAZING. It showed a catty side of Taylor that we saw earlier with 'Picture to Burn', but didn't see much on
Fearless. I loved watching Taylor's fights with her dancers, and as she got to the bridge I was absolutely hooked and devastated when it ended. I was captured in the moment.
Speak Now: Another favourite from the album, the performance was everything I had imagined it would be. It really worked and was pulled off well, the transforming stage was phenominal and this song highlights how Taylor can put on a show just as much as other singers can.
Fearless (Medley): The medley of 'Fearless' with 'Hey Soul Sister' and 'I'm Yours' was perfect, as was the earlier medley with 'Back to December'. I've always enjoyed 'Fearless' but I wasn't a fan of the other two songs, but this performance of Taylor sat alone by a tree on her Ukulele was great. It had me bobbing my head and tapping my feet.
You Belong With Me: The performance was great, and the choreography was good. I was a little disappointed because it was a massive step-down from a lot of her previous performances of the song, but it definitely wasn't NOT entertaining.
Dear John: The song itself bores me to death but the performance was gripping.
Haunted: The perfect song was completely enhanced by an amazing performance. The gymnasts in the bells was a beautiful spectacle, and pardon the pun, but the whole performance was haunting.
Enchanted: The performance was
enchanting
and had both of my eyes glued on Taylor for the duration of the performance.
Long Live: A loving performance from Taylor dedicated '100%' to her fans, it wasn't a massive show but it really made me feel like she appreciated every single fan, so I guess the point came across well.
Fifteen: Dull. It would've suited being earlier in the show, because Long Live was a great song to end the show with before the encore.
Love Story: A little cheesy with the balcony flying over the audience but it made me smile, because that's cheesy and cute performances are what Taylor is all about.
OVERALL:
I feel like the setlist could've been improved a little, but the show was very enjoyable. There was an appropriate mixture of theatrics and just Taylor sat playing an instrument, and for a second tour it was very good. Her vocals were on point, not perfect but they were fine as they were, easy-listening and hardly ever had an off-key note. As most people say, Taylor's extensive 'OMG' breaks did eventually become a little tedious, but they were acceptable because they felt genuine.
