Enjoyed the "three to the end" format.. of the paso's I liked the choreography of Melissa and Tony the best. Thought Shawn & Mark's free dance was the most crowd pleasing and could well have clinched it for her, but I'd have liked to see less acrobatics in it on balance. Also thought the opening gimmick was unnecessary and nearly cost them their timing when Shawn struggled to remove that outer costume.

Felt for Melissa and Tony because they'd been criticised for over-balletic routines - so they did the opposite of that and it backfired. Agree their jive or something showbiz-y as suggested above might have been a good dance to choose for the last one.

Felt Gilles and Cheryl made a brave choice of free dance compared to the other two but it didn't quite come off. Maybe something along the lines of Tom and Camilla in SCD i.e. with a bit of humour, as G&C brought to the lindyhop?

Personally I loathed that bit of their dance - I hate masks and things like that so I found it really hard to watch and I agree it could have come apart quite spectacularly if she hadn't managed to get that costume off.

Me too! I hated it, and it only just came off - ugh. I felt that Melissa lost it after her injury, she was exciting to watch but then went very samey after it - I kept losing concentration because all her dances merged into one. I felt for Gilles, to me he was one of the best celebs I've watched.

On an aside I thought that 'comedian' was really not funny and quite cruel in some of his comments.

All in all I've enjoyed DWTS much more than the last Strictly. The judges last year on SCD really got on my nerves, Len in this DWTS was on a knife edge for me at times - would he or would he not irritate me (he just managed to not do so).

Sunday afternoon (when I watch DWTS) will become boring again until the next series.

I've watched most of the US seasons and have always picked the wrong horse through to the final.

I was glad that Shawn won loved that freestyle, Giles would have been okay as well, Melissa I could never take to.

I watched teh US show, did they show the Jeffrey Ross Roast on the UK showings?

Yes, they did. I don't think he was as good this year - he left out a few people (unless ours was an edited version?), including Shawn, and whilst I suppose he said the only thing he could to Melissa, it still felt a bit mean spirited, whereas last year I thought he was pretty funny.

I've heard Jeffrey Ross do a few more roasts (check out Comedy central roasts or the Howard stern show roasts) he can be a lot more mean spirited.

I found most of the comments that I can remember pretty funny, but I do think he took the easy option with Melissa. I think we did get the same version as in your clip, but as I say, I don't think he was as good as last year.

Thanks for the explanation Lilystar - I'm so glad we don't (or haven't yet) go down this route in the UK. Talk about scraping the barrel for filler content.

Melissa was only known for being dumped after winning the bachelor. The fact the same network had a spot open up on this show was a godsend for her. Let's not forget she went on a show to compete against other women for a guy to propose to them. She was hardly an olympic gold medalist.

Yep, that about sums up the majority of the show for me. I really think that they missed out by not having more pro dances - they are generally appreciated by most people.

I understand why they used him last year, as he was a contestant, but I hope it won't become a regular thing. I think it's not really to my taste - I like the show to be light hearted (ok, fluffy is probably as good a word as any ), and as I've said, I didn't enjoy some parts, and others I seem to have instantly forgotten!!

Anyway, can we start rampant speculation on the next lot of 'Stars' - that's always fun!!

Flamer in the US is a word used to describe an openly gay man. He is a "flamer." Bruno took it well though.


The roast style of comedy is not everyone's cup of tea and there were a lot of complaints on the ABC boards also, so you are not alone. Jeff was pretty tame on DWTS. I did like his comment of "dancing with the vaguely familiar" because it's true, Before DWTS nobody knew who the heck of any of the finalists were.

Jeff is the king of comedy roasts and in more appropriate setting he can be funny. The one he did of Pamela Anderson was outrageously funny because well, Pam Anderson is so over the top. She took it in stride and got up and zinged everyone back especially Jeff.

I was disappointed for Gilles because I did feel that he was the best overall dancer of the season. To lose on a freestyle was sad indeed. I saw an interview with him and he said the producers told him it was very, very close like in the 100s for voting. But it just the way these shows go. It is the reality of the reality show.

But at least this year there were some good dancers and some interesting personalities. The producers did a good job with the mix.

There was an interview with a producer of the show that was posted on ABC and then removed (so I don't know if was legitimate or not) but it was something to the fact that they are going to put a cap on practice time because of the all the injuries this year. If it was legimate the interview will surface again.

Putting a cap on the rehearsal time at the very beginning would probably be a good idea as it would prevent some of the stress injuries which we get over here as well.

I'm afraid I'm like puffle - I must have a sense of humour bypass because I found the "roast" distinctly unfunny and from the looks on some faces, I suspect the recipients found it unfunny too.

But I'm looking forward to the next season as I really enjoyed this one (unlike last year when it was boring it was so predictable as to who was going to win).

I agree Force 10 - don't know if he said anything to Denise Richards (if he did it was cut from the UK version) but she looked furious - perhaps it was because he didn't say anything to her??

I do love DWTS nearly as much as SCD and I agree there should be a cap on rehearsal times in both shows otherwise it's going to get even more ridiculous than it is already and we're going to see more and more injuries to the 'Stars' which is never a good thing.

As for who should be on it next season well I don't know many American stars but the ones I do know and would love to see on it are: Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar - they fill the married couple competing against each other requirement they tried to get this season. Others are David Boreanaz, Hugh Laurie would be hilarious and perhaps Michael Phelps - at least Anna would be tall enough to dance with him and he would fill the required Olympian spot! To be honest that's about all I can come up with at the moment.
