May I ask why someone who has done the following is through to the next round:

1) ran onto a motor racing track during a live sporting event
2) interrupted an Olympics mens running race
3) attempted to disrupt the 2006 World Cup and 2004 Epsom Derby

.....be allowed on Britain's Got Talent? They should not allow people that have done these kind of things to even perform on the stage seeing as they have been a danger to public safety in the past.

Quote:
“The defrocked priest who ruined the Olympics for a marathon runner and jumped on to the track of a Grand Prix is to appear as a contestant on Britain's Got Talent -- because the producers did not know who he was.

Controversial former priest Neil Horan, who was excommunicated by his bishop in 2005, was allowed to audition because producers weren't aware of his colourful past, it has been revealed.

He auditioned in his traditional Irish dance in front of Simon Cowell and two other judges, as they were completely oblivious to his meddling antics at major sporting competitions.

A spokesperson for Talkback Thames, producers of the show says "The production team became aware of Neil's past after his audition."

"He auditioned in London, and he did get through at that stage."

She added: "I was there at his auditions and there weren't any problems."

The spokesperson says Horan didn't make any personal or religious points at the audition in London, and he just came on as a regular auditionee.

"He just danced. That's all he did," the spokesperson added. "I don't know if he will be shown on screen because there are so many people auditioning."

While Horan hopes to make a career out of his dancing, sources have told the Herald that he will not be appearing in any of the live shows of Britain's Got Talent. ”

Only saw him towards the end but it didn't look like he had on either a Highland or a Keltic kilt.

Looked like a grubby old skirt bought at an Oxfam shop for 20p.

He was awful. Why was he allowed to go through?

Just watching the repeat here.....I cannot believe that Neil Horan was allowed on BGT.

The show has sank to a real new low.

Neil Horan has extreme mental issues paranoia, manic depression etc. I remember the time he disrupted the marathon and grabbed the brazilian in third place (the ppor man thought he was about to get killed by a maniac or something), and there was absolute uproar.

I remember also hearing Neil's brother crying on a radio programme saying that Neil was a lovely guy and how he wished he would just get the right treatment....

BGT has just gone one step too far this time in exploiting a mentally unstable person, and the thing is - there are world-wide known incidents in the media that clearly illustrate the man's instability and mental issues, and yet they still allow him on???

They have sunk far to low this time....

Not to mention he wasn't even dancing (well jiggin around) in time with the beat - surely must be the most fundimental qualification of 'a dancer' - and Simon didn't even notice - which just reminds me that, what Cowell knows about music is dick

Could just as well been playing Cornation St theme and he would done just the same. In fact no music at all wouldn't made the damdest bit of difference.

Let me enlighten you a bit about that nutter...........being from Dublin.... we know a thing or two about him. He used to be a priest.... and is absolutely BONKERS!!!!! He has been on the news several times here in the past for staging demonstrations... for instance I remember he tried to interrupt a major event at the olympics... I think it was the Marathon, not sure... by dancing out in the street in front of all the runners. He was arrested of course, as he has been several times. BE WARNED.... how he got past the producers of the show for this, I will never know.

Thanks I remember him now.

Whatever his past antics, I can't see why he was voted through. He was useless. The judges seem to have a 'thing' this year talentless ijits!

It was only after my thread was moved here that I realised he's a well known nutter.

I agree, he is a lunatic. A simple Google search on the producer's part would have told them all they needed to know. I don't think the audition should have been shown on TV either, they obviously knew at that stage but decided not to edit it out.

Exactly, and i found the point where they claim, they didnt know who he was, when he came on a bit dubious to be honest..... i mean these people must go through a number of pre-audtions before they make it in front of the judges.

And as you say even if they did find out afterwards, they still allowed the clip of his audition to be in the show! It beggars belief.....it just shows you how low the producers/ SICO etc will sink/and how they are more then willing to exploit mentally unstable people to put out what they deem to be 5minutes of entertaining tv.

It's a sorry state of affairs

Irish dancer who wowed Britain's Got Talent judges is a shamed priest

An Irish dancer who wowed the Britain's Got Talent judges was yesterday revealed to be a former priest defrocked for ruining a series of high profile sporting events.

Neil Horan was voted through to the contest's next round after receiving a rapturous response from the show's audience on Saturday.

But it emerged that the 61-year-old has been jailed twice for trying to promote his religious beliefs at the British Grand Prix in 2003 and the 2004 Athens Olympics.

It is understood the show's producers allowed him to perform his jig because they did not know of his past

Horan said: 'I did tell producers after the show I was always looking for opportunities to spread my religious opinions about the kingdom of God and the imminent second coming. 'My audition was not about religion. I was simply delighted to perform.'

Known as the Grand Prix Priest, Horan told the Daily Mirror: 'I think they (the producers) wanted me to jump into Amanda Holden's lap. I didn't do anything as I was proud to represent Ireland and show off my folk dancing.

'But if they invite me back I may have something up my sleeve.'
In July 2003, Horan caused chaos when he ran onto the track at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone dressed in a kilt and waving a banner that read 'Read the Bible. The Bible is always right'.
Several drivers had to swerve to avoid him on the 200mph Hangar Straight.

After being tackled tot he ground by a marshal, Horan was arrested and charged with aggravated trespass. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for two months.

Cowell's underlings knew EXACTLY what they were doing by putting Horan on. Look at all the extra publicity they're getting. BGT is part freakshow, part talent show and the freaks like Horan are an integral part of the publicty machine.

Are we expected to believe that everyone who hits the stage isn't seen several times and vetted? Do you think Susan Boyle just showed up, looking like your mad auntie and the producers decided to put her on for the craic without knowing she had a fantastic voice? Of course not!

They were probably hoping he'd do something like run on and push the cute 10 year old off the stage squalking about the end of the world.

There's publicity stunts and then there's irresponsibility.

^^

They aren't saying that nobody is auditioned before they get to the judges. Just that they don't do background checks (criminal records etc.) until the next round. And seeing as they audition hundreds upon hundreds of contestants, that's pretty obvious. They had a contestant in the first series who got kicked out because he was found to be on the sex offenders register.

He'll be forgotten about by tomorrow and he hasn't had a chance to promote his crazy beliefs.

Because his "talent" as a dancer has got nothing to do with his criminal activities.

BGT must've known his past antics and put him through to the next round just for the media attention, because theres NO WAY on earth that man is talented!

Yes, and they don't seem very repentant either.. "we felt there was no reason why we shouldn't show Neil's audition". They have gone too far and should apologize, but I guess ratings mean more to them than saying sorry for giving more publicity to a mentally unstable man with an unsavoury past.

If I was the runner he had interrupted at the Olympics, I would be mighty angry that he was being given such a platform and praised by Piers Morgan as "representing" people. Just after thinking actually, given that he was editor of the Mirror when the Grand Prix incident happened, wouldn't he have recognized Horan?
