Ripoff Britain strikes again - legal download services

When itunes launched a while back, charging 99 cents per download, and I discovered it was only available in the US for the time being. I thought to myself, any bets when it comes here, the songs will be 99p instead (which roughly, I think, works out at about a 35-40% markup).

Well, surprise, surprise, according to this http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/34404.html, the first UK service to announce it's launching, from Coke, will be charging 99p per song.

Any bets when itunes and Napster launch in the UK, that they will also charge 99p per song too. No doubt they'll use the same lame excuses the car makers do for fleecing "treasure island". To do with higher investment costs, exchange rates, and anything else they can come up with.

Well seeing as Apple don't make ANY profit on their service in the states I bet they will charge 99p here just to make a profit on it.

Don't see how its a "rip-off"

The perception in the US of 99c is the same as the perception here of 99p.

Or perhaps you expect to find "Everything for 69p" shops to match the "Everything for a dollar" shops in the US!

well yes, actually

If they pay a dollar, I expect to too

If it was a one-off purchase, you might have a point, nobody would mind much about the extra 30p, but I'd say the average music listener has a collection of 100s of songs. So we are talking significant amounts, say 500 songs would be £500 instead of $500 (I assume you wont argue over the 1s). Which is roughly between £150-200 more, are you seriously saying you wouldn't mind paying over £150 more than the americans, because 99 is a nice figure?

Or maybe you're making an argument for the Euro, which is much closer to the value of the dollar

Well that's better, else it would be, if it wasn't for the words "start from" instead of "are"

for one permanant download its 60p per track , you get 500 credits for £4.99 a month, which is fantastic if you choose temporary downloads which means you only play them on the pc, but as its set up in the main room, with quality speakers I'm fine with that, but that means you can basicly download the latest albums, for 120 credits
