Where's my EPG?
GaseousClay
19-05-2009
After rescanning this morning for the new channel my epg has emptied entirely. Even after pressing the Guide button the box did the usual one tuner trick but after the picture came back the epg is still empty

Edit I've just done another rescan and it's put things back to normal has anybody else had this?

No, mine didn't get the scan prompt when I switched on at 9:30 this morning.

It's recording right now, until 13:30, so I'll check then and let you know what happens either way.

Rgds.

Hi GC.

I switched back on after the recording finished, and I got the scan prompt 1 Channel added, and 1 Channel changed (anyone know what this one was?).

After the scan, I got the EPG immediately on pressing "Guide", without having to rescan.

I then re-scheduled my ITV HD timers.

The only other thing I have to add was that the scan seemed to finish very abruptly, and dumped me back to the Live TV without any confirmation/intervention. I'm sure previously that it has told me how many channels found & saved? But, all the channels appear to have been saved OK as far as I can tell.

Rgds.

Thanks for that savvy.. I think my problem might have been down to operator error in the end. After the first scan I pressed ok to save and then got dis. Oh look a spider. tracted Then instead of pressing the exit button I pressed the ok button again and the box started scanning again. I pressed ok to cancel it before any channels appeared in the progress window. So I guess before a scan commences the box bumps the epg data automatically.

So you DO get a Save prompt? I didn't.

Hmm...... I think I'll do a rescan just to be on the safe side.

Any ideas on the 1 Changed item?

(He he on the spider. My wife's just seen a dead field mouse on the patio, and won't go out to pot up her plants until I've removed it !!)

I think you only get the save prompt if you manually do a freesat scan. I always reject the auto scan so that I can perhaps see what new channels have been added though I don't get the message about how many changed new or removed items. Oh and no idea about what the changed item was

I'm away from home and have set the HDR to record a lot of stuff. Does this scan prompt mean none of my recordings are going to happen just like a couple of weeks ago? Will not be amused if this happens again!

Normally only ITV HD reservations bite the dust

I connected up my old HD box and updated the channel line up using the auto scan method and I got the number of added, removed and changed channels which I pressed ok to confirm

But I didn't get a further confirmation to the number of saved channels

OK, thanks for confirming.

Cheers.

i don't think it rescans until you switch it manually out of standby. It's another bit of poor UI - whenever it has happened to us we've always managed to accidentally cancel the scan resulting in an empty epg (prompt disappears too quickly/press OK too late).

There should be an option to disable automatic rescans - i can imagine the current behaviour really confusing my parents.

Default action is to carry out the scan, so do nothing when the prompt appears, and a few seconds later it will scan.

Probably part of the freesat spec - addition of channels automagically.

Agreed, but not if the auto update buggers up a weeks worth of scheduled recordings. That happened to me two weeks ago (?BBC HD PID change) and Freesat and Humax are playing pass the parcel as to who caused the problem.

Yes, I saw that too.

If you remember, also, that my box was recording successfully before I brought it out of standby, and got the auto-scan prompt.

Hopefully, germanycalling, the strange 0 added/deleted/changed rescan we had a couple of weeks ago, and the problems it caused, was an anomaly, and let's hope it was a one-off.

When do you get back to check yours?

Rgds.

Hi savvy yes indeed remember but normally when a channel update happens the box doesn't recognise the fact until it has been through a standby/reboot cycle after the update has become available I presume your recording was scheduled at the first power-up of the day or did I get the wrong end of the stick? But yes hopefully Germanycallings last problem was a one off

I had switched the box out of standby at 9:30 to check something, then switched it back to standby again, without getting the scan prompt.

When you had your problems, my box was in standby, recording various previously scheduled Series Linked progs from 10:30 to 13:30. It was only then that I brought it out of standby, and then got the scan prompt.

Ahh so it was more than one recording. Was there a break between them where the box went into standby again or were they following on from eachother?

Back to back recordings on the same channel, so I presume it didn't go into standby until after the last one finished at 13:30.

Should be back 23:30 Saturday. Hope to watch F1 Quali (if it recorded!) then and get some ZZZZs in. Hope to archive eveything else to the external drive then watch the race live before packing for the next trip leaving Monday. Again away for a week.

How did your box cope with the rescan on your return, and recordings in Standby whilst you were away?.

Barry, over at Hummy.org had deliberately left his one of his HDRs without doing the auto rescan for a week, and reported that all recordings successfully executed.

I had no on-screen indication of a re-scan. Most of my requested recordings were there, but not all. The F1 quali on BoobyBC 1 was missing totally, so the red device that you push ( was going to say Button) was much appreciated to get it on sport multi-screen.

The Clunes clash I reported elsewhere. Can't remember what it clashed with, and I cannot check as I am not at home.

Series link on FIVE gave me two recordings of Oil Riggers from two different days. Imagine this is not an HDR problem as others have reported duplicate recordings of the Gadget Show.

For the entire week the hard drive went from 40% to 65% so I feel I got off lightly and am prepared to accept my misses/ failed / clashes as teething problems, more likely coming from EPG rather than Humax. Unfortunately I have now lost two episodes on Auf Wiedersehn, Pet and that has miffed me somewhat

I don't think so. My Panasonic PZ81B just tells me there are changes and would I like to start a scan. No default, I have to say yes or no. I suspect there is no spec for this function so you get what the manufacturer programs.

It does the same for Freeview channels also, but my previous TV automagically scaned/updated them at some point when the TV was off....

Matt
