camera settings advice needed

ok first of all this is my camera: http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/consumer/d.../finepix-s5700

right tomorrow I'm going to an indoor arena and hoping to be able to grab some snaps with the camera, anyone recommend settings to have it's going to be mostly dark, flashing lights and all that jazz that comes with a gig in an indoor arena.

anyone able to suggest some good settings to try out?

No doubt more expert photographers will have "proper" advice to give

I had an earlier version of that camera some years ago and to be honest I was more than happy to leave it in full auto mode a lot of the time. It seemed to sort itself out more often than not and produce perfectly usable pictures. About the only manual tweaking I did would be to focus most of the time.

I've no experience of that particular camera, being an SLR user, but the general "rules" for a photographer shooting in the environment you describe are :

Turn off the flash - its only effective at short range

Crank up the ISO - to 800 or even 1600. Higher settings mean more grainy shots, but faster shutter speeds, meaning less motion blur.

With my SLR I'd probably start with the following settings - ISO800, f4, 1/60th sec - tweaking the settings after inspecting the first few shots . . . .

I want to ask the same question but for a different camera, sorry if the answer is the same I didn't want to create a duplicte thread.

I am using the Sony DSC S730. I used this camera last year and the best image I could get was to switch to "HDTV" mode (1920 x 1080) I only brought the camera the day before and didn't have time to play with it.
