I'll be going to India for a few months this summer, and trying to figure out the cheapest and simplest way to keep in touch.

I've got an iPhone 3G with the £35 contract. I don't plan on taking the phone, but have an unlocked Nokia N73 which can take the SIM. The tarrif has 500 texts, which according to O2's site translates to 125 from abroad - likely not enough. Calls for outgoing and incoming are pretty expensive - 60p/43p.

I know there are travelers' SIMs and the option to get a 'local' SIM over there (though it seems quite confusing and needing lots of ID). Just looking for some way of getting cheap texts and/or calls. Having a different number isn't a problem, be it Indian or UK.

Any recommendations welcome, particularly if you've had any experience - all is a bit daunting!

This is the best I could find that matched (most) of your criteria!
