Just ordered my Humax Freesat PVR from Dixons, got it for £250.57 inc VAT and delivery.

Fingers crossed it will be with me Friday as standard delivery is 2-3 days.

Can't wait to get my hands on it as l would like to replace BTvision and then dump BT Broadband for Be. I am sure it won't be long before l am modding it with a 1TB drive.

Is the iPlayer working yet? Do peeps already have there broadband connected to the PVR?

No, not yet.

Humax say there will be a bug-fix firmware release before the iplayer implentation.

According to the latest freesat press release - "IPTV services such as BBC iPlayer due in the Autumn".

The HDR is in the top 100 Electronics & Photo category on Amazon @ £255- pretty impressive.

I'm waiting until I see what the IPTV functionality has to offer before taking the plunge.

A lot of people are selling it for around £250 now.

Could this price reduction signify that Humax are planning to release a new version of the box at the old price point, or is it just the result of normal market forces driving the price down?

Still £293 at Argos. They seem to be last when it comes to lowering prices.

I'm not buting one now, I've decided, I'm gonna wait and get a DSAT/DTT receiver for ease of use. Just need to find one that has a nice OSD and PVR functionality. Might even wait until UK HD DTT has launched so I can get a dual receiver with DVB-T2 functionality as well.

Cheapest l saw using Pricerunner and Kelkoo was for £255 at Amazon, not sure if that included delivery or not.

Wow!, it was 98th when I first looked on the Amazon site this morning, then 83rd an hour or so later. Now it's skipped past 64th to 56th (at 16:01).

Aaargh. Stupid wife went out and missed the delivery on Friday of my new box. Won't be delivered till Wednesday now. As l work away from home during the week, won't get my grubby hand on it until Friday evening.

Make sure you use a PVR drive not a computer drive.

If you absolutely want to be safe, use an external enclosure and run a sata lead out through the bottom.

What caused this?

Its hard to see how an externally mounted drive could cause lock ups in a healthy HDR as only the data's going externally via SATA and SATA's pretty robust.

Also, the OS / firmware is on chip in the HDR not on the hard drive so any corruption there would only mean a loss of a programme not box function.

The Icy Box BTW is reported by some to have data problems. Its also passively cooled.

I have one for my pc. Never had any data problems but my HDR wouldn't recognise it, hence why I went the internal route.

To summarise a poster in this thread originally removed the drive carrier and fan but experienced lock ups during periods of high cpu activity (recording 2 HD and replaying a HD recording). He then replaced the carrier and reconnected the fan and had the same problems. In the end fitted a standard 12V cpu fan to the cpu heat sink which so far has eliminated the problem. I wondered if removing the hard drive changed the internal air circulation such as to comprimise cpu cooling. Speculated sticking in any old drive (not connecting it of course) should restore normal air circulation and without the hdd load on the power supply should run even cooler than a unmodified box. Not experienced any problems myself on my fanless box but may be I haven't stressed the cpu as much.
