The caricatures made me laugh, but prizes in previous years were more glamorous and appealing...

I've noticed that too. Even when the rest of the team look decidedly underwhelmed, Kate's face will light up like a beacon.

After weeks of having my character portrayed in all sorts of unflattering lights and being exposed before the nation to be mauled and savaged, I should think I'd at least like to leave without having my looks ridiculed for public entertainment as well!

And poor Lorraine; that was evidently not comfortable. Loving Kate's dressing it up in politeness with the "oh those thick brimmed glasses that cover your insane eyebrows are SOOO you. When I think Lorraine, I think nerd glasses. Yay."

I'm just no fan of caricatures - ah, Vanitas, Vanitatum!

Lorraine is a caricature of herself...

That statement from Kate re. Lorraine was supremely bitchy during the Gerald Scarfe scenes...

However, what is going on with Lorraine's accent - she talks in a London accent and then (for a complete sentence) talks with an Irish accent - I know people can lapse into different accents mid-sentence, but not at the start of sentences....

It's Gerald Scarfe.
It's something which you could treasure for the rest of your life as a memory and a keepsake.
Much more valuable than a one off treat of drinks in a penthouse or something.

For me that's probably the best prize I've seen on there.”

Hear hear. Those who are saying it's crap obviously have not a clue who Scarfe is, and where he stands in the pantheon of British cartoonists.

Scarfe is one of the best known, if not THE best known, cartoonist's in the country ... and that wasn't his studio, it was the National Portrait Gallery. You appear to be deaf as well as ignorant.

I thought it was a much better treat than some of the others earlier in the series (laughter therapy and sushi dinner spring to mind) though it's pretty clear the overall standard of treats has dipped this year.

Scarfe is a very well-known and respected cartoonist, one of the best. It's a keepsake they can frame and hang on the wall, not something that'll be over and forgotten about as soon as it's over. And for the more mercenary among us, it's a prize that will be worth an awful lot one day. I think it's an amazing reward.

Btw, didn't Gerald Scarfe do the opening titles for Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister? I'm sure those were his cartoons.

I thought the prize was great. Getting a famous cartoonist to draw you instead of just being shoved on a helicopter or balloon. I almost thought Lorraine was going to be offended by her caricature, but it's good she took it in good humour.

I would have loved to see caricatures of Yasmina, Debra, James and especially Ben.

A Scarfe caricature as a prize? Excellent and appreciable in value.

Exactly ! he`s not exactly an unknown street artist trying to make a living.

Lovely reward for them

Certainly an improvement on the series where a 'performance' (i.e. histrionic hair tossing) by Myleene Klass was the 'prize' for the 'winners'... I would have preferred the boardroom if given the choice...

Probably the best prize this series. And if any of them go on to make names for themselves, the drawings could be worth even more in years to come. Provided they made him sign them.

God yes, they will be worth a lot already just on the basis that they were Apprentice candidates and that it was televised!

Also, while I hope Gerald Scarfe lives a very long and healthy life, he's about to be 73 and at some point he's going to pass on; when that happens the value of his work will immediately go way up. (And I can't believe I just said that )

Thanks, though I realise I need to work on it. I tried to convey Ben's hamster-Frankensteinness, plus the fact that he seems to have the traits of a fat guy without being all that fat. It is just the watery eyes and blushing that I have to crack to really nail James's look, plus Debra has this ugly/beautiful thing with quite manly features that is difficult to convey.
I do worship at the altar of Gerald Scarfe, if only for his illustrations to some of Hunter S. Thompson's work - though the great man was disappointing to some extent on last night's show, scribbling the caricatures with felt tips rather than ink brush - which usually leave his distinctive droplets and blotches.
Sometimes I get paid for it, sometimes not - drawing I mean! Like most artists I have lean years and fat ones and a day job!

Seriously can't believe that people think this is a crap prize

My hubby was in awe when he saw what they were getting, he studied Scarfe in art college, the man is a legend.

What an honour to have his draw you and in the National portrait gallery. Wow, something you would never forget, and they will be worth ALOT of money.
