Iphone and Skype

I have recently installed sype on my handset this is mainly because of the general poor coverage we get in southwest England. I would much like to setup call forward to my skype number when im unreachable I have the gsm codes to setup the divert this however does not seem to be working at the moment im hoping however thats simply down to the 1 bar of reception. One thing I did notice was that in order to recieve a call through skype you have to have the app open on your Iphone. Is there anyway to keep it running and maybe minimise it or are there any other programs out there which could do this. Basicly all im trying to do is divert calls to my skype number when im unreachable so i can carry on using uninturruped service through my wifi

One of the limitations of the iPhone is that background processes aren't allowed for 3rd party apps (like skype).

There's no way around it really unless you jailbreak your phone. You can then use an application called 'backgrounder'.

yep as said background apps are not liked by apple as they would drain the battery faster

Dont see how this has anything to do with being monopolistic. It's simply one of the demands of the iPhone sdk. Basically they're trying to create a more sandbox approach, close an app and it stops running rather than closing an app, leaving it running, using up your battery.

They've promised a form of push notification for things that need constant updates (IM, skype). It's been seemingly forever delayed though.

A nice idea, but it would've been nice if they'd left an option for this to be disabled though, and left at the user's discretion. Would love it on my phone though, always leaving things running and killing the battery!

A company offering a product with a specific set of features is not a monopoly.
