I prefer cod to haddock - it isn't so dry and not such a strong flavour.

A lot of people aren't that keen on fish - in Elizabethan times the people had to be forced to eat fish on Fridays to subsidise the Navy - and haddock has a much fishier taste than cod.

haddock - it tastes of fish and has a meaty texture
unlike cod which tastes of blotting paper with the texture of cotton wool isn't this a north south thing? i'm from Hull and when i was a kid i don't think you could get cod in any of the five chippies in walking distance |

Talking of fish.I bought some Birds Eye Fish Fingers(made with 100% Fish Fillet) in a crispy batter the other day. Whilst i was eating them,i thought' this doesn't taste like cod'. So i read the ingredients.'Alaskan Pollock Fillet'. What a rip off.No mention of this fact at all on the front of the box.I will be keeping my beady eyes on their fishy products from now on. |

Most of the fish products are now made from pollock as cos has been overfished, they now use pollock in everything like fish fingers and fish pie.
I read the back of every packet now as i tried it once and thought it was horrible. |

I thought i'd save a bit of cash with the fish fingers. But as you say,i'll be reading the packet next time. |

I like haddock, but then my Dad is Irish and the Irish love their haddock which might explain why they prefer it up north. Reminds me of a story my brother told me. He was in KFC and a very drunk Irish man came in. KFC asks: "what would you like". Drunk Irish man "haddock & chips".

Prefer Haddock over Cod but for the best fish and chips it has to be Skate.

Cod is better value, seems thicker and no skin either.

Why do the English prefer cod to haddock?
![]() * The quality fell through the floor. It wasn't chunky any more. * The price went through the roof. * It became an endangered species. * About a third of cod on sale was estimated to be illegally caught. Sadly, a lot of morons think that there is only one type of fish and that is cod. They will eat it until there are no more cod and then they will blame somebody else for its extinction. I eat haddock (when I can get it cheap), salmon, coley, pollock and mackerel. I also like plaice on the bone but not the nasty dry fillets. I hope to be able to eat cod again some day, but my hopes are not high. |
