Heard Pop Idol Michelle's first single on the radio 1 chart show today, unsurprisingly a bland, forgettable ballad. No doubt its still a cert for no.1 though.

I wonder which song she'll cover for her second release? (I'd love it if someone asked her that on a phone-in )

The onoly person who should of won that competition IMO was the man who wore the glasses, "The Vicar" or something like that, I didn't actually watch the show.

Why should we give her a chance when you openly admit to riduculing Gareth? The difference is Gareth's problem he had no control over, Michelle's is probably due to her own overeating.

Nope. Its a problem as far as Michelle is concerned. It is a problem for people who cant see further than pyhsical appearance. I suggest they deal with it. Michelle is quite happy the way she is.

Obesity is just as unhealthy an image to portray as the anorexic models we see about. The "healthy" image of a female would be someone about the size that Kate Winslet was in Titanic, or Geri Halliwell pre weight loss.

Just as anorexia can cause numerous health problems, obesity is probably more dangerous, heart conditions, arterial disease, increased risk of cancer, and overall a decreased chance of being alive. I don't think all girls should be little sticks either, but they shouldn't be encouraged to think that obesity is a good thing.

The whole "appearance" arguement won't wash either because its not about how ugly or attractive she is, its about the fact that shes unhealthily overweight.

You guys are pathetic! Who cares what she looks like, I wasn't aware you could see images when listening to the radio. She's a nice lass, gotta a great voice and the singles pretty good so lay off and give her a chance I can't belive how openly offensive your being. All this shows why michelle is needed to show people that raw talent is more important than image.

Well, I guess I'm being a bit shallow bringing this up, but history seems to be repeating itself with Michelle. I heard a few days ago, that she is infact, supposed to be 15 stone, but looking at her on GMTV, she's either exceedingly short, has internal anatomy like an aero bar, or they are telling a few porkies about her weight. Because she looks over 20 stone to me.

I remember the same thing happened with "20 stone" Rick Waller. I thought to myself "No way that guy is only 20 stone, he's huge! He must be more like 30 stone" at the time. And when he ended up getting weighed on tv, he turned out to be just over.
