Live performances - best and worst performers?
Generally speaking, which performers (solo and bands) are best at live performances, and which are the worst?
I don't mean individual performances (we all have bad days) but overall. Doesn't have to be new performers, anything goes, but I'm mostly thinking of those from the 1960s onwards. |

Anyone who mimes through a live performance doesn't deserve to be on stage let alone get paid for it...... The world has gone totally mad when people can get away with that and still have fans
![]() I was never a fan, but Robbie Williams always put on a good show. |

Humble Pie were a killer live band during their peak.
Rockin' the Fillmore (live album) rocks hard ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmV6cu_Fv80 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw5qkBnexiM other live performances which I really like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZMmV...eature=related \m/ ![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnI6W3l_1Oo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91Uf7Ycjt-o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqsMK...eature=related basically EVERY band (including The Who and Led Zep) hated to perform after them on numerous festivals in the early 70's. They were on F***** mission ![]() Marriott always rocked live, in Small Faces too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uBFd...eature=related around 2:00 he is so good ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOAs7qLMZJA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sngAEbtEAlgthis rendition of If I Were a Carpenter is just mind blowing , the whole band is great. |

At his peak, I dont think anybody has ever come anywhere near Michael Jackson in terms of all round live performance. I had the honor of seeing him live at wembley in 91, just incredible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24MHu_l5aj8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5jETJgJUH4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zpTQCQEFhg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kknzQjOen2M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0mcxmCGetI - stunning vocals Dont think there will ever be anybody at his level again to be honest. Hopefully some of this still remains when the O2 concerts come around...if they ever do. |

I would say The Cure, and Muse are my top live acts....
The worst ive seen was probably Amy Winehouse, which really disappointed me as I think she has an amazing talent. |

Although it's not to everyone's tastes...
Whitney Houston before 1996 was incredible - flawless vocals, and incredible stage presence, and she never sang a song the same way. |

Went to see Beyonce live last night - and she was amazing! Easily one of the best performers ever by a mile and knows how to get the crowds going...

Well from who I've seen 30 Seconds To Mars are a good live band.
Kelly Clarkson is another great performer, I'd definatly go and see her again. Also from what I've seen of her, Christina Aguilera is really good live also. |

Favourite performers of mine are Skin (Skunk Anansie). Sooo much energy and everything it just amazing. Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) puts on an awesome show. Björk always goes all out for her gigs. Her most recent Volta tour had a lot of really cool things, such as flames and lasers. Some poor performances I've seen have been Athlete who were completely dull and The Bravery who just stood there and sang  |

Seen a fair few concerts in my time but I think Prince from 86-88 is pretty much unbeatable. 3 stunning tours, Parade, Sign O The Times and Lovesexy.
A run I think unmatched. |

Guns N' Roses in their zenith...Axl Rose and Slash had a chemistry that has since gone unmatched between a singer and guitarist.

I would probably say Britney and Beyonce.
Both fantastic performers and always put on a great show. Also about Britney miming, i think the audience is so drawn into the whole show atmosphere that they dont even care about the miming. She just puts on a show that is outstanding. |

So far this year I've seen Sneaky Sound System and Ultravox, both of whom I'd rate as two of the best acts I've ever seen (alongside Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Marc Almond, OMD, Sparks, Grace Jones and loads of others).
The worst was unfortunately Nina Simone who was old, frail and very high at the time and she died not much longer after that gig. Also New Order's Get Ready gig at Brixton Academy was crap - let down mainly by the sound quality. |
