Ipod Touch Screen Crack Advice
I love tea
23-05-2009
Hi, I got given an ipod touch by a friend when they got an Iphone. The only problem is it has a rather big crack on the screen and is scratched all over on the back. The screen is my biggest concern, so does anyone know how i could go about fixing it? I saw a link posted on here which showed you how to do it yourself but I don't think I could!
Also what protection would you recommend me getting?
Thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much about the scratches on the back, they happen when you just look at the device!

Anyway, before today I had a RebelTouch by SwitchEasy case, but ripped it off today. Bloody hurt and I've got two bleeding fingers cos of it, so I wouldn't recommend it if you need to get it off [I had to destroy it in order to remove it]

Anyway, I believe you can get kits on eBay - that contain everything you should need right from a new screen to the tool to get the iPod open.

I wouldn't really want to do it myself, wouldn't trust myself!

It came like it when my friend gave it to me, when he got his iphone. So i don't think they'll send me a new one

The warranty doesn't cover damage/neglect so it's not as simple as getting a new one from Apple.

There are quite a few repair services online for iPods and they also replace the glass screen on the Touch. From my experience most seem to be American sites and doing a quick browse I found one that will do it for you for $100.

If you decide to repair it make sure to get a protective sleeve or wallet for the Touch after it is repaired. The wallets are a better choice as they protect the screen from impact from a fall and you simply flip it up and over and back to use the device. I use a leather wallet with my iPod and it has hit the ground maybe 30 times and there is not a scratch on it and even the wallet itself looks practically brand new. Mine is a padded leather one from DLO which stays closed magnetically. Sleeves will leave the display exposed to impact and generally do not take overall impacts as well.

On mine I also removed the belt clip to make it more compact and much easier to slip into a pocket.

Two things come to mind, I love tea (a most refreshing drink, btw).

Had you considered contacting the official Apple support site here http://www.apple.com/uk/support/?

In addition, there are a whole load of repair products here http://www.repairproducts.co.uk/page20.htm which might do such as the windscreen repair kits.

I hope things work out for you.
