Be honest.

I love music from both ends of the spectrum, mainstream to completely unheard of, but what really grabs me is finding people who refuse to listen to mainstream or well known music because it's just that. If you don't like the music, then that's fair enough, but I know people who have stopped liking/listening an artist by the time they've become quite well known or won't allow themselves to be exposed to certain artists for the very same reason.

Well?

I listen to almost everything out there, hardly known or mainstream.

I think people are stupid who stop listening to whatever just because it's suddenly become popular or don't give something a chance just because it's made it into the charts. Music snobs basically.

Lets be honest there are far more people who won't like an artist unless they are well known.

Either way they are doing it for the wrong reasons.

I listed to what I like. I wouldn't force myself to endure something just because its in the top 40, however neither will I sit and listen to an obscure artist just for the hell of it.

However, I do tend to start disliking people when they are overhyped. Which I hate about myself. But I can't help it.

I'm looking at you Lady Gaga.

I have came to a stage where I have no idea which is which. I don't know if what I listen to is on Radio 1 or no station at all.

I listen to music I like, but I have to admit I get mixed emotions when someone small I like becomes big. Bat For Lashes, for example. I followed her for along time and she recently became big. I really love that she is getting the recognition she deserves but am also a little bit sad that one of my "secrets" has been passed on to a whole new audience.

I agree that Lady Gaga can go poo herself in public and go away, though.

i Prefer Radio 2 to Radio 1 if that makes sense, it's very rare you get a good number 1

The sad thing is the Music charts is like a business now most of the artists are in it for the wrong reasons

Kings of Leon have been more sucessful now even though it's their worst album , i still like them but i hope their next record is'nt as much of a sell-out

It makes perfect sense. Radio 1 has never been much good.

I'm not typing out an answer because Carmen has done it for me. Agree with every word

I wouldn't say I really notice whether its mainstream or alternative or whatever, I tend to just listen to music when I come across it and I don't listen to the chart shows because they're inevitably full of the type of music I can't stand.
I don't think I'm pretensious though, I like weird obscure stuff, but I also like loads of pop if its well done like The Saturdays, their album is pure pop but it's really good!
Then I do hate it when artists try and chase mainstream success, I loved No Doubt's not-so-succesful 'Return of Saturn' and then when they decided to go for a more marketable sound with 'Rocksteady' I was a bit disapointed.

Oh and I think Lady GaGa's album is alright, but the whole image is so contrived. I hate when people go on about being different when really they're just ripping off Bowie, Blondie and Grace Jones and selling it as their own innovation to a public that have forgotten, or not experienced the people who did it the first time round!

Not a big listener to daytime radio simply because of the endlessly repeated records - even 6music a supposed alternative station is guilty of this crime.

But in the recent past I have liked some "pop" hits namely Britney Spears - Hit Me One More Time; Kylie - Can't Get You Outta My Head; Beyonce - Crazy In Love.

I have never heard a Lady Ga Ga record so can't comment, but from the reports from the field, I believe I am not missing anything new and innovative or good. And that is the shame of today's mainstream it is hype over quality.

Am I the only one who thinks the first line in each verse of the Ladyhawke single sounds like Cyndi Lauper's - "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

If I like the music I listen to it.I can't bear those music bores who say they don't like mainstream music.Music is for everyone but not everyone likes the same music.I don't BUY mainstream music but I wouldn't say I hated it.Most mainstream is throw away music,it'll be forgotten in 6 months and the next big thing comes along.
