I too used to stay up especially to see this in the 80's.
I remember Central showing it 3 times per week. As Central came to the end of the series years before the other regions, I wished I was able to then to pick up perfectly other regions, like it's now possible to do. |

As i explained on another board, pcbh is so expensive to buy in the UK because the owners FREEMANTLE know it has such a cult following and as a result no British channel will pay for it. Ironicly it is cheaper to buy it in any other country.

Had a cracking deal - £50 the lot and also included a few books and papers and the first 6 original tapes! |

I remeber PCBH from the late 80s - at the time I was living in Colchester and was able to watch the show several times a week on Thames, Anglia and Meridian. Was quite good cos most of the ITV network were showing the show at different stages. IIRC five was the last UK broadcaster to transmit this show at about 4am. Don't know how far they got or whether they still have UK rights.

Five got all the way to the end. Their contract was to show the whole series once and was not renewable, so no chance of them showing it again, sadly.

There is a 3rd box set due out but it isn't listed on that site. The DVD they have listed "Prisoner-Volume 3" is actually the 3rd disc from the first box set.

I was an actor in Australia back in the late 70's early 80's. My first speaking part was in the second or third episode of Prisoner (it's Australian title) where I played the part of a Cop (one of the few male parts in the series). It was hard going in those days, very little rehearsal time. A point of interest - the red brick exterior shots of the outside of the prison were in fact the TV studio (Ch.0) where the series was filmed. The repeats earn me between $20 & $50 a year in residule fees!. I'm glad so many overseas viewers are fans, although most Australians now think it was a "bit lame" by today's standards.

Iv'e forgotten, it was such a long time ago - I suspect I was the one that had hair far to long to be a Cop. I will go through some old scripts and see if I can find out. Cheers. |
