Bands that are often called a second rate or crap version of other bands

Coldplay = 2nd rate Radiohead - true 100%

Oasis = 2nd rate Beatles - true but anyone that copies the Beatles is going to be 2nd rate however I cant deny that Oasis' first couple albums are brilliant

Muse = 2nd rate Radiohead - I'd say Radiohead have been an influence but Muse are their own animal

Arctic Monkeys = 2nd rate Libertines - true but Arctic Monkeys made more relatable lyrics, which is why they turned out to be more popular

Kaiser Chiefs = 2nd rate Blur - true 1000%

Empire Of The Sun =2nd rate MGMT - maybe ripped them off abit but I like EOTS's album better than the MGMT one

Foals = 2nd rate Bloc Party - true but I like both bands

Editors = 2nd rate Interpol + Joy Division - true but I don't think Editors are crap tho

White Lies = 2nd rate Joy Division - true but some of White Lies songs are infectious.

Muse probably attracted a lot of former Radiohead fans who didn't like Kid A because it lacked strong melodies.

I already liked Muse at this point.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the thread title. Maybe just disgruntled Radiohead fans. I'm a fan of both but these days Muse are my fave band.

I agree on most of what your saying , but without being bias as Oasis fan atleast there was a 25 year gap

Arctic monkeys are great , Libertines are better (HOPES FOR REFORM) but theres nothing wrong with an influence

Radiohead are miles ahead of Muse , but muse do have a slightly more louder fanbase IMO

I think coldplay are more like oasis and the smiths (not like radiohead IMO)

Kaiser Chiefs = 2nd rate Blur - true 1000% AGREE 1000000%

Empire Of The Sun =2nd rate MGMT - AGREE but MGMT arn't world beaters

Oh btw

Pete doherty & Carl Barat have written some of the best songs in recent times , lyrics are fantastic very poetic ( aswell as Babyshambles ) "tell the king" is a good example, but maybe listeners would have to put a bit of effort in to understand and in that sense the charts arn't rewarding as alot of people just want synthesized rubbish with pokerface getting screamed all over the place

2nd RANT OVER

I personally like the Libertines lyrics better than Alex Turner's It's just that the Arctic Monkeys lyrics are more relatable to mainstream audiences.

Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts
If You Were There, Beware
Leave Before The Lights Come On
do me a favour

I am neither a Radiohead or Muse fan but there are times when I can see why people say Muse are like Radiohead, especially when Matt sings. It's sometimes like Thom York.

Very few people are truly original. It's not possible unless you create your own, unique genre.

Some people say Bat For Lashes is a poor-man's Björk but I disagree strongly I love them both, too.

I think that White Lies are definitely a second rate Joy Division. I've seen them live (White Lies... I wasn't born when Joy Division were around ) and it was, at times, reminiscent of something from the 70s - 80s.

In the world of RnB you're finding loads of wannabe Beyoncé's. It used to be wannabe Destiny's Childs, TLCs or En Vogues... but now groups are less popular people seem to be striving to be like her.

are you serious? Noel pretty much openly admits that he's "borrowed" from the Beatles

I think with the r&b genre everyones near enough the same, I mean does anyone really know the difference between usher, chris brown, ne-yo and so on...

If you think Britney Spears and Mariah Carey sound the same that says more about you then it does about them.
