Ipod Touch Advice Needed
mw1

Evening all,

In the next few weeks i plan to purchase an 8gb Ipod Touch from Argos. I have read most of the features on there i.e. music you tube etc but one thing i want to know more about in particular is the wi-fi.

2 Questions:

Firstly could this be accessed 24 hours a day like my broadband connection?

Secondly is there a small fee charge for use of websites?

If anyone can help me out on this it would be great

Do you have a wireless router is what we need to know.

No extra charge, you just need to buy a router.

I don’t know if I am reading this right but you say you want 24 hour access to the web.

The Touch can connect at any time via your wifi router but if you mean “always on” then this is limited to the battery life of the Touch unless kept on a charging/docking station. As an example if you use Skype on your Touch, this is always on while in your WiFi coverage area but when the battery goes so does everything else.

You can buy access to public WiFi networks like the Cloud to use with the Touch when out and about and you can if you’re lucky get a free connection to WiFi at the likes of McDonalds.

Can someone tell me how you 'buy access' to public networks and is it a one off payment?

The payment depends. Eg, my ISP offers 1200 hotspots over the country and charges per 15 minutes connected. I am not using it, because you may get a lot of free hotspots in coffee shops, restaurants, airports, I was in a few trains that offered wireless access, too. BTW ipod with wifi on drains a battery quite a bit, so you need to recharge it more often.

when you connect to a pay for network, when you try to access the net without first buying airtime then the first website you should get is the website to by airtime for, then when you buy the air time your set to go.
