Okay so its my boyfriends birthday next week and instead of going out to dinner im going to prepare him a 3 course meal at home, lay the table, candles etc.

Ive decided on Smoked Mackerel Pate with Wedged Toast for Starter and Lime Cream Filled Brandy Snaps for dessert.

Im stuck on what to do for a main though. Any ideas?

Have a look at this website, especially the top 10s. You should find some inspiration on it.

I like ribeye braised in red wine. Too fatty for griddle.

p.s. If you split up, my birthday's in September.

The ribeye I eat isn't fatty at all, are you sure it's ribeye?

I always think for a 3 course meal you are eating yourself, something slow cooked is best for the main course. Coq Au Vin/Beef Bourguignon/Lamb Shanks are all good.

Ribeye has a big seam of fat running through it. Not a bad thing as it gives flavour, but there is certainly loads of fat in the cut. I prefer a good marbled Sirloin these days.

I think you should have a look at the weather forecast. I personally don't like eating slow cooked meals when it's really warm!

I do, that's why I don't get this whole summery thing for GBM they keep going on about. The Greeks continue to eat Moussaka and Kleftiko when it's 100F so I think we can cope with a Lamb Shank when it's 75.

Personal tastes Tommy...

I would have salad with both those Greek dishes in the summer. If it is hot (and we eat outside a lot during the summer) I do not fancy slow cooked meals that I would favour in the winter. You might not get it, but you're not the cook in my house!

I suggested the OP check the weather as I know I am not the only one who finds weather affects what they want to eat. Our Australian neighbours went home at Christmas and cooked a whole roast meal for everyone, and they said it was the most uncomfortable meal ever sweltering whilst eating a roast, followed by Christmas pud and hot custard, and in retrospect they realise how daft they were!

The weather is supposed to be warm but it will be in the evening inside so will be cooler anyway. Plus my boyfriend will eat anything at anytime haha
