Simon doesn't get the point of this show

I agree.
It's just about singing and dancing, not variety.

Most of them who aren't singers or dancers are just patronised and mocked, or are the one-off occasional token act who are just there to make up the numbers and aren't championed by the judges.

I'd love it if a true variety act appeared and was excellent at what they did.
But this show won't do that because despite what Simon claims, this show doesn't support variety.

Can you imagine Simon singing the praises of a decent comedian and all the PR and media hype being surrounded around that comedian?
No?
It's actually quite hard to imagine isn't it?

Me as well. You knew that everytime a buzzer went during an act it was going to be him.

Normally I would agree with you but, tonight and last night he was exceptionally rude to acts that HE agreed to put through. Whether we like it or not it's his show, and if he didn't want them on then he has the power to stop them. It's all right going on about how bad some of the acts are but, he's only himself to blame. It's laughable how he's now throwing his toys out of the pram over some of the performances.

Probably because:

1. he is still peed off at her rejecting his deal and signing with a competitor
2. it was so bloody boring anyway, a hopeless dirge of a song and a performance to match. She sings every note the fcking same.

I do wish BGT would drop the RVP crap though, absolutely NOBODY cares about the RVP any more, and when a contestant talks about how they have "always dreamed of being on the RVP", it doesn't ring remotely true.

Nobody seriously believes BGT is about finding an act that the Queen would enjoy.”

Okay, my bad But the point still stands: RVP is NOT the point of the show.

Will Connie Talbot be appearing on the shows at all?

AGT is back on soon at the end of the show watch out for the disclaimer at the end. It is $1million but it is paid as a trust fund over 25 years......they don't get the lump sum upfront

Well, yes (that and success). What else would he be doing it for?! Our entertainment?

I thought she was with Universal?

She is, but they are both as bad as each other for dumping decent musicians in favour of tacky crossover.

Faryl has done pretty well though in her genre.”

I absolutely agree.

NO

I think you don't get the point of the show

The Show is designed to generate Mr Cowell even more money.....

Any show that has Simon Cowell involved will clearly exploit the participants...

Weren't a couple of members of an xfactor tour complained they were paid next to nothing?

They didn't all get that prize though did they? Sure the series 1 winner didn't and Neal Boyd only did a few week iirc

It can work in favour of the contestants at times, you only have to look at Terry Fator with his $200m deal at the Las Vegas Hilton

I'm sure Simon very much gets the point, the point is for ITV to keep his contract running for him to continue his blaze of publicity and general reality stranglehold and for everyone to love him and his millions

Er - no. The whole point is for Simon to find a vehicle to help him make as much money as possible.

The Royal Variety is just a smokescreen.

Comedians and variety acts won't earn Simon money. Even the likes of Flawless and Diversity won't. What he wants is SuBo or Shaheen, who he can secure lucrative deals for.

Just another chapter in Simon's Got Millions ...

However, Shaheen/Hollie/Shaun won't sell lots of records and there are more important things than the potential albums.

He's produced 5 series of these shows. He has signed 2 singing winners. He didn't sign the Paul Potts-a-like winner of America's Got Talent 3, George Sampson won't be lighting up the Syco income statement by any means, Bianca Ryan bombed and he didn't sign Terry Fator from AGT2 (though he's probably made more money from him than the others!).

The ratings and international format sales of this show are worth so much more than 150,000-200,000 album sales.

On the positive side, he doesn't seem at all impressed by this series. Hopefully that'll lead to a push to improve the standard next year.”

This sums it up perfectly. The show is now worth far more than anything he can get from it, unlike TXF, where he's constantly on the lookout for someone he can make millions from.

I disagree with your last point though, here's a quote from Piers' blog:

Quote:
“Even Simon is slightly shocked by how successful this series has been.

‘It’s incredible!’ he said after last night’s show finished. ‘It's like the whole world is watching. This is the show I love doing most of all.’”

I think Simon's fine with the show, as the quality is better than in the first series (although not as good as last year).
