What's wrong with...
SCD-Observer

Grouping all the 'singers' together,

All dancers together the next round,

and then all the other variety acts together (maybe for two nights if there are more)?

This way, we will only have two singers, two dancing acts and some really good 'variety' acts in the finals.

What's wrong with that?

Too logical. Too fair.

saying that though it would be a shame to lose a particularly good singer/dance act and have some godawful variety act in instead....

hmmmmm, im not sure.

Well we'd get to good singing acts from one round.

2 good dancing acts from the next round.

But from what we've been subjected to in the auditions, I can't honestly see them finding 6 good variety acts to choose from the other 3 nights - that's even supposing there were enough acts to fill 3 semi finals.

This will force the judges to choose wisely the variety acts to put through.

Also, they can scrap so many going through to the semis as well and cut the semis to three sessions and not four (or more).

As of now I could see acts like Gareth Oliver (I know some disagree) having a much stronger chance of going through (because he IS talented at what he's doing).

If they want, they can select THREE singers, THREE dance acts and two variety acts (thus only three semi-finals and less semi-finalists) or something like that.

You don't need so many semi-finals now do you? Why waste time letting mediocre acts through to the semis and have so many tedious days of semi-final rounds?

One night singing, one night dancing and one night variety.

If they want eight finalists, they can choose THREE singers, THREE dancers and two variety acts.

Or they can choose two from each semi-final nights and have only SIX finalists.

What's wrong with that?

There's no point dreaming of the semi-final number being cut. While the ratings remain how they are, there's no way ITV'll allow a cut in number of semi-finals!

Doing it randomly is fairer than seeding it, but they seed the world cup in football and all the tennis tournaments as well, it's how it is, and if you believe in the competition

Yep. Stuff if that farting guy makes the semi-finals next year, as long as the show keeps hitting high figures.

Good thinking - sorted!

We end up with variety in one show, but repetitiveness in the other 5 so I don't think it's worth it. I wouldn't be interested in watching 8 dance troupes in a row. I'm finding the lack of variety difficult as it is.

Why should be it 5 and not 1 or 2?

I meant that under this plan, we get a final that has variety. But the 5 semi-finals won't have any variety whatsoever.

It is an idea but I just wish that the public vote could choose the second place as well as the first place and then see the figures for number of telephone votes cast.
So far I haven't got through to vote at all.

I would have chosen Gareth the ventriloquist over singer Shaun Smith. Also I would have chosen the MD Showgroup over singer Shaheen from last night's show.
