English produce
I'm trying to make a concerted effort to buy more home grown English produce. However, the two things i'd like to buy more of,wine and apples,it seems, are increasingly more difficult to obtain.I love English Cox orange pippins and i can't seem to buy them anywhere. The New Zealand cox is awful.Any idea where i can buy English apples?
I understand that only Waitrose are selling English wine. There are no Waitrose outlets in the Midlands where i live as far as i know. Also English wine seems to be very expensive, why is this when there are minimum transportation costs compared with wine produced in other parts of the world? |

No economies of scale, I suppose. They don't produce much of it so costs of harvest, making, storage, bottling etc are disproportionately high.

Surely there are some farm shops near you? Or a farmers market every-so-often?

I think farm shops or online suppliers would have the most choice. It will probably be more expensive though.

You could try Cairn O’Mohr wines. They're Scottish rather than English (from Perthshire) and made from berries and leaves and stuff and some of the wines are just stunning!
