Switching networks for the summer
Need a bit of advice about being a network whore if anyone can help me!
I moved from Orange to an O2 Simplicity (30 day) contract about 4 months ago, and took my number with me. I'm really happy with O2, but have now decided that I want a new phone... and the best way to do it is through mobiles.co.uk and get some cashback at the same time. Problem is, I can't do this (and take my number again) while I'm already an O2 customer can I? Anyway, to kill 2 birds with one stone... how about if I port out of O2 to Vodafone (SIM only 30 days) for the summer (I might as well take advantage of their roaming promotion for my holidays) - and then port back to O2 and take out a new contract through mobiles.co.uk. Can anyone see any problems doing this? I can't think of any other way to do it! |

Sounds like a good plan to me!
I move about quite a bit... I have an application called 'handy blacklist' installed on my phone so I can block the retentions people from calling me over and over. Having left Vodafone a couple of times - They do an awful lot of hassling to try and keep you. I also had a nightmare porting from Asda to Vodafone - It just would not happen. You should be fine porting about as you have described though |

that will be fine.
only thing i guess is that you are obliged to give 30 days notice. and if you pac out before that date you'll have to pay the remainder of your line rental. personally what i would do is phone o2. see if they can match the offer. obviously don't tell them you'll be coming back anyway. |

Thanks for the advice guys.
I'll bear in mind what's been said about retentions. I expected to be hassled by Orange when I left them (after about 12 years) - but they didn't give a toss! I don't think there's much point in calling O2. For one thing, I've not been with them long - so they're not likely to try and keep me are they? Also - there's no way to get a cashback offer if I deal with them directly. And yeah, I realise about the 30 day's notice. If I time things right though, I'll only be a few quid down. |
