She has been on Dr who "The fires of Pompai" before. So I'm presuming they chose her just like they did with Martha. She was in the last episode with Rose (or the one before, but part one of it anyway ) and they chose her like that.

OK, I don't want to make any comments really as I don't know anything about her, but that said here I go!!! I am 37, 38 this Summer and I am just starting to feel slightly alienated at the moment!!! I hope all that changes once I start to watch series 5 and all my small worries fade into total insignificance. I knew of course that with Matt being 26, the assistant was going to have to be young. I'm sure all will be fine, it's just me having a wobble.

Ain't that the truth? Let's not forget, people, the programme is aimed at 8-12 year olds. That's the core target audience. 21 is not young in this context, it's old.

She's the same age as Wendy Padbury was when she first played Zoe, two years older than Deborah Watling was when she played Victoria, and a year younger than Nicola Bryant was when she first played Peri.

It's not the companions who are getting younger, it's we who are getting older.

I suppose it makes sense that since they are going for a relatively unknown actor for the Doctor, they wouldn't want a big name assistant to overshadow him.

So she is the comapnion......cool....I wonder if she will be the only comapnion though...because in series 1 we had Jack too (yes I see him as a companion)....

Not that I'm disagreeing with you crazzyaz because you make a very valid point, but it does sound a little as though SM is getting in there first as if he knows he will be criticised for her age perhaps and is pre-empting that???

Is true, I noticed the other day, seeing a picture of George Graham winning a cup or something and remembered feeling really puzzled that at that time I had thought he was REALLY old, where as now he doesn't look old at all, is all about the perspective.

Excellent news, she looks lovely and it will be interesting to see what her character is like. It's also exciting coz we get to see a NEW Doctor introduce his new assistant to the Tardis and Time Travelling adventures! *excited* At least with her previous apprearance you couldn't really tell it was her. Hell, being an unknown, up until now no-one in here knew who she was or that she was in that episode.
