Yeah it is. When you're 12, 21 is a long time away. Anyone who's 21 is a proper adult who doesn't have to go to bed when their parents tell them to or go to school or anything!
LOL...sorry I should have made my self clear...I was agreeing with you....I was saying that 21 isn't young for a 8 year old

Well given how she looked in FoP at least we won't have to have any comments about being related to previous characters.

So no:

The Doctor: From Scotland are you?

Karen: Yep

The Doctor: Not got any Italian blood in you then, as you're the spitting image of someone I met in Pompeii?

Good Luck to her.

Although to be serious....chances are that won't happen as he didn't actually meet her personally...although the Doctor being the Doctor....you never know

Not that I'm disagreeing with you crazzyaz because you make a very valid point, but it does sound a little as though SM is getting in there first as if he knows he will be criticised for her age perhaps and is pre-empting that???
No, for me his comment meant more about her character, rather than her age....I just have a feeling, she maybe a bit of a tomboy...someone who both girls and boys could look up to.....nothing to do with age...

Here's a longer clip with her in. Shame about the script mind you.

She is taller than expected, although it could be that the guy is tiny

The word "Rani" can be made from the actresses name I notice

If the Doctor gets into this assistants knickers then he'll never leave the Tardis again

She'll be playing a young Tegan no doubt.
She's only 3 years younger than Janet Fielding was in the role.

I'm not sure he's even saying she was a tomboy. I took it to mean "she's cool..." (all the girls will want to be her) "...and she's pretty" (all the boys will want the girls to be her).

Leave it!

Back on-topic though: I think I've just fallen in love!

Delighted that an unknown has been chosen, it'll hopefully prevent too much gnashing of teeth across tinternet (seems to be the case going by this thread).

I think she's just the right age personally.

Must be a windup, surely?

EDIT: Actually I see what he's done there, because everyone's comenting on how georgous she is, he's spoofed that to make everyone look like text-speaking imbeciles, thus affirming the belief that Doctor Who is turning into Hollyoaks cos Tom baker isn't in it any more.

Just watching the clips on YouTube from the Kevin Bishop show and she looks a great choice.

There's definitely something about her and she can at least handle comedy (even if the script isnt great). Really looking forward to the new series as they looks like they are really taking risks with the casting.

I demand an on-screen explanation as to why a young woman from (presumably) present-day Scotland looks like the same as someone from ancient Pompeii.

If not I'll have no choice but to boycott the series.

Or not.

I know tell me about it......this is the first time the the show in 45 years has gone for such a young assistant.....who has been commented on looking so hot or whatever.....and not be judged on her acting even though no one has said that they don't care if she can act or not......because they have not much to go by yet.....mmmmm strange world indeed....

Although your comment makes a difference from having the usual sacrastic comments about the New series using male totty for females, who are not real fans as they will leave once Tennant goes......

So does this news mean we have to start complaining about Moffat's "Scottish Agenda"?

That's just to annoy the Doctor, all his assistants are now ginger but he isn't.

The real question is what happens to persuade the Doctor to start taking permanent companions again? After Rose, Martha and Donna the Doctor has decided to travel alone forever so it'll be interesting to see what makes him change his mind.

If Moffat casts Susan Boyle then yes.

Given the show's wide international sales and the fact that many Americans seem to have difficulties understanding strong Scottish accents, will she have to tone her natural accent down?
