she is cute.

not being a massive doctor who fan, is the choice to use ever younger actors to play the doctor part of the character's progression?

i remember william hartnell back in the day and he was like, 104 or something, then, with few blips aside, the actors playing the doctor seemed to be in their sixties, then their fifties, their forties, thirties and now matt smith in his twenties.

it'll be the kid who plays chesney on corrie next (and he's ginger!)

I remember when I first watched the show as a child, that seemed to be the impression I got (1 to 5 seemed increasingly young). But after the fifth Doctor, Peter Davison (who was 29), I guess they had nowhere to go but back up again.

Just had a crazy thought.

The Press Release didn't tell us anything about the character, which is fair enough, but they didn't even mention her name, which is a bit odd. Unless it is a name we already know. And she is a redhead. And Moffat is taking over the show.

She couldn't be? Could she...

I'm not bothered about how old she is or how she looks.

All I'm concerned with is that she doesn't fall in love with The Doctor. Its been done ... we seen it happen twice. lets not do it again please moffat!

call me a romantic, but i'd like the doctor to get a wife! I know it's completely impossible! You're right though it is boring! Where are the older Doctor's? Sylvestor was my childhood favourite! I'd like him to be less trendy too! Where are the massive scarves?

Unless he brings back River Song, I trust Moffat will give us a break from this lovey dovey stuff.

I must say that she's quite a looker but I'm more interested in her acting ability, I'm sure she won't disappoint us though.

Based on what? Certainly not any of the scripts he's actually written for the show or any of the comments he's made about having no problem with the idea of the Doctor having a love life.

Or the kissing for that matter.
"Ooh, ooh, is it a real kiss, or is it just a Timelord trick to reverse the polarity field? Maybe it's a real kiss and he loves her. It's so exciting. Maybe it's a magic kiss, etc......."

Pass me the sick bucket will you Plant.

BBC 6 O'clock news haven't even mentioned it. I would of thought that this would have been of interest to a large part of the audience.

Oh forgot to say; she is hot!

Just when I was feeling good about the casting you had to throw that idea in, didn't you?

Come to think of it, I wish before RTD had gone Moff had asked, "One last thing before you go, would you mind creating a companion for the new Doctor?"

I like RTD's women a lot more than Moffat's.

Well, I saw her brightening up the Kevin Bishop Show last year and thought she was a very good rookie comic actress, so I'm very pleased she is the chosen one. She showed what she can do with a Stars and Stripes bikini and a shotgun in the Countdown USA sketch, which has stayed strong in my memory for nearly a year! Welcome aboard Karen ....

Actually it wasn't as straightforward as that. Hartnell was only 55 when he took the role (younger than Peter Davison was in Time Crash!) and it went - 50s, 40s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 40s, 40s, 30s, 40s, 30s and now 20s.

Even though by the promotional photos she looks quite young, in all those clips I have seen of her on YT today, she has a bit of a muture face.....so she may not even be playing a 21 year old.....

Maybe it's just me but RTD seems to be the main culprit for all the romantic storylines.

Well, no....He may have created two characters that have fallen for the Doctor (and I don't count Lady Christina, she was even thinking about kissing the Trivoters, it was there eating habits that put her off).....but his stories have never really been completely around that....unlike Moff, who had the whole Reneitte love story, and then River too (yes ambiguious, but she didn't mind a quick flirt) and I guess you could even include Jack in the TEC/TDD....in fact that was the first story that had the Doctor show obvious signs of jealousy that Rose was paying attention elsewhere....The only time where love really came into an issue was in Doomsday, where Rose told the Doctor, and yes Martha gave looks, but that was spread into other stories too....but on a whole it wasn't the focus, or even central to the story apart from the Last of the Time Lords, where Martha leaves because of her feelings.....and then Journey's end....where Rose kisses the other Doctor because he tells her how he feels.....all the other kisses, in RTD's stories have been hidden behind something else, like taking up the vortex, and saving Rose, Cassandra kissing the Doctor, but done for comic rather than romantic interest,....but Moff's had a full on Snog, which the Doctor seemed to very much enjoy, and later they even "danced".....His GITFP, was based on how he meets Reneitte, and has that cheesy and romantic (depending on your opinion) letter....and the Libraray two parter, has River behaving like a Time Travellers wife....Oh and Paul Cornell had a love story for the Human John Smith, and also in Father's Day, it was suggested that the Doc would wish he could live a life like the bride and groom....

So no....RTD is definitely not the main culprit.......especially in regards to Moff, who's scripts are untouched by RTD....

Oh lets not forget....its RTD who came up with Donna....a true friend of the Doctor......

I was hoping they'd bring back Jo or Zoe.

Oh well, maybe next time.

So long as she doesn't have a fetish for men with 'interestingly' shaped heads, that shouldn't be an issue.

Well I think she is gorgeous. Hopefully she'll be good at what she does and then she'll be the whole package!
