Nick was very unfair re Howard this week.
I do not understand their love affair with Lorraine either. They seem to defend her time after time to Sir Alan (despite Margaret going back on her Cassandra opinion in Howard's YF).

I do have a feeling that something must be going on with the editing of the programme which is why Nick and Margaret's comments are out of step with what we're seeing

Or is that that not having had much to say in previous series never exposed them?

For example, I thought that they were way off on Mona saying she didn't do anything when she was one of the best negotiators and sellers there. It was funny that in the YF prog Adrian C changed it to 'you didn't do anything creative'.

Hmmmm...

I think they can screw things up with the editing even when they're not trying!

It may be that AS asked a specific question relating to creativity but that was ommited from the edit making it appear that N&M were being more general than they were.

Agreed.

Given that they are working within the context of the game, it's understandable that the other candidates get frustrated with her.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Margaret was being somewhat two-faced about Lorraine. I suspect that the guy who was fired might have been her favourite. I can't even remember his name. I didn't even know who he was until he became the rather spineless team leader that he turned out to be. I don't know why Margaret loves him. Most of the public will prefer him to Lorraine of course because he's good-looking and Lorraine is not, but I would expect Margaret to be above those shallow concerns. I'm disappointed as I generally find her witty and fair. Not this time though.

I am a Lorraine supporter. I would love to be in a team with her. She does rub people up the wrong way by pointing out when the emperor actually has no clothes on. This does irritate people, but they are the ones with the problem, not her. She failed to argue a point with the team leader in this week's task - but be fair he was team leader and she did not have the right to go against his instructions. No-one is going to want to employ someone who continually argues against the manager. I would not have pushed the point either, if I was her, although perhaps she could have made a better job of selling the dinosaur to the boss and then he may have come around to her way of thinking. If only she had been able to do a quick mock-up of a TV demo in front of him while they were deciding, then she may have won the day. Unfortunately, she's just not that spontaneous, she likes to thnk about things first, she is, as she says, a "slow burner". I can see why SAS likes her, too, but I think she's gone next week. The interviewers will crucify her because she likes to think before she speaks or acts. A slow-burner is often someone who likes to think before they act, the better to make the right decision. Not so good in opportunism, but good in planning - as she has proved. I suspect she's phenomenally intelligent - not always a good thing in business, because getting other people to see where you're coming from can be a problem unless you are very good at thinking down to other people's level. I suspect Lorraine has that problem - what to her is obvious takes more explaining to the others and she is often lost for words. I so often see on her face what I think others interpret as a look of stupidity, but I interpret as a look of incredulity at other people's stupidity.

I would definitely employ her because I don't mind other people telling me when my ideas are rubbish as long as I have the final say because I can listen and I can alter my opinion if the case is strong enough. To me, Lorraine doesn't come across as confrontational in the slightest, she just comes across as someone who wants to point out things that other people might not have spotted. And she's very good at doing that. and that's why she rubs people up the wrong way. She was a great team leader, and even her antagonists admitted that.

But I'm off topic because the thread is about Nick, and yes I have enjoyed Nick much more this series. On the whole, Margaret is still my favourite (a position which will become very unstable if she continues to unfairly diss Lorraine like that), but Nick is coming up close now. Good. This all makes for better TV

This is the feeling I get from watching the show. It is not a case of bullying, hatred or ganging up against Lorraine. These candidates are working under very tough conditions and restrictive deadlines. As Howard explained they don't need someone to work against them when a decision have been made. It is necessry that every one gets behind the team and do their best to make the project as successful as possible.

As for Nick, he is there to watch the candidates and offer his opinion. He and Margaret have different personalities and they like different characters. Their opinions are very valuable as they are the ones who follow the candidates and see them in action. However, it is SAS's decision and he makes up his own mind. If it were up to Nick, Sara would have won series 1, and Alex would have probably won series 4. If it were up to Margaret, Ruth would have won series 2 and Tre would have probably won series 3.

Yes, but there does seem to be a feeling among the other candidates, and we've seen some of this on screen, that she keeps going on and on pointing things out long after the decision has been irrevocably made. This may, as Tern suggests, play well with Sir Alan, but let's be honest, it's never going to make her any friends among the other candidates.
