Would it have been worse if he hadn't have intervened and the producers' original decision had stood ? What would have happened then ? But it is odd in retrospect how quickly he came up with the solution without conferring with Piers and Amanda. He took charge of the situation.

Of all the people in the world that he would have asked, Amanda Holden was probably bottom of the list!
I think it was the right decision for the show. Especially when she started crying again at the announcement she couldn't sing again. Of course, if she had blown it a second time, then it would have been the wrong decision!
She was getting that sympathy vote whatever she did.
