He shows promise, not great tonight but actually should have gone through because most of the others were rubbish.

Vocally I didn't think it was a great performance, although it improved towards the end.

The staging was odd and awkward IMO. The song choice was poor, perhaps there was a limited selection of well known songs that would have been considered suitable for his voice. I'm sure there are songs that would be more suited to a countertenor and work better, but it seems to be a rule at BGT that the song must be recognisable to most viewers, and this may have constrained Greg a bit.

I hope they retire Hollie overnight and send her home and Greg takes the place he deserves. Simon needs to sort this out.

Greg didnt need any of the cape nonsense .........he should have come out with no fuss around him and simply rocked us with his amazing voice... but they tried too hard to create this stupid visual image around him and it ruined the whole thing. His voice is the act.... pure and simple....there were so many other songs that they could have given him to create a pure mind blowing performance. Blame the producers for messing this up, not to mention the weeping willow.... who ****ed up this chances as well with her whining.

You just knew when he was up with hollie in the judges vote, his mind would be saying am ****ed lol,as much as he seems a nice guy.

Poor Greg, I wonder when he realised that he had no chance of getting to the final no matter how well he performed.

And given some of the kek that has reached the final you've got to wonder at why some of the better acts were put in the first & last semi final - on other nights they would have walked the audience vote

Greg might still be in with a chance if Hollie withdraws overnight. The producers would probably need another act to avoid mucking up the show's timing, and Greg is probably still in town and all rehearsed and ready ...

It's such a shame because he was fantastic in the audition, and the song choice tonight was just unbearable. Did he pick it? Because it was a bad, bad choice of song.

He has the potential to do so, so much better.. and it's such a shame.

It just didn't work at all for me.

His lower range just isn't as impressive. But the higher range - song choice is all. Barcelona is so Montserrat - he might have been better off with a more generic piece.

It was a good idea, but he wasn't up to it.

And nor was the cloak.

Not a great performance, it just appeared the song was to much for him. Fancy being up against Hollie in the judges vote though, I knew then that was definately it.

LOL must admit there was an element of that for me

But objectively - he wasn't that good

Much as I'd like Greg to be in the Final, there's no way that Hollie's pushy mum will let her withdraw!

Thought this would be a Manuel Boyle thread

Although Greg wasn't at his strongest tonight, he was still very good and very much sex on a (cloaked) stick.

it was the wrong song. wrong choice altogether. starting a song by switching between falsetto and his normal range was never going to work.

the song itself needs more time than the tiny slot of BGT, and it really only worked with a strong voice like freddie mercury's and a trained natural soprano voice.

working the two voices together was a gimmick that cost him a place in the final.

he should have stuck to the falsetto soprano voice alone.

Similar sort of thing to Susan Boyle really, in that his popularity after the audition stage was down to shock value - people tended to overlook that both were not really that good. He sings soprano for good reason - it's his best register. His normal vocal range was not good, and certainly didn't add to the performance. A shambles all round I'm afraid.

Can't disagree with a word you say.

But he is rather attractive

Never saw him in the heats but read about him and was expecting something special, very poor to be honest.

You have to sympathise with him having to perform after the Hollie episode. It must have unnerved him a bit.

Greg ...... i was so so so gutted tonight.

Speaking as a huge fan the performance was just awful why oh why did no one advise him the song choice was appauling, he is such a talented guy and could have chosen so many cool opera songs....

He could have gone through easily if pnly he had the right song, i was gutteed for him tonight

I felt for Greg tonight. He has something special and with the right song could be really awesome.
To get into a head to head situation with crying little Holly sounded the death knell for him.

Yeah I mean - I know people are saying gregg messed it up...but look at the person who beat him in the heat!

They both messed up. The little girl temper tantrum was the only thing that tipped it as far as comparing the two go..

And I still thought that 'VIOLENTLY HOT' Gregg performed as best as he could without that flipping cape!

i agree with all of this!

I think the cape idea was a Sarah Brightman thing, I've seen her have something like that on a few clips.

Also, I think he wasn't quite himself tonight. Not just the singing, but the little chance he got to talk? There was something different about him.

I think he went on knowing he had no chance. I would be interested to know if that song choice was down to him. Surely at the rehearsals it would have been apparant that this song wasn't working for him? And what happened to the singing lessons that contestants had been meant to be having? I didn't see any improvement in any of them.

Just edited this to add, that I think the cape was a concession to his love of Sarah Brightman, and if he had been choosing a song, he would have chosen one of hers. It was never him that mentioned Freddie Mercury first, it was other people. He likes Sarah, and Meatloaf.

He was totally mishandled by BGT.
