Does Populist Tat Like BGT Demean Britain?

Or is it a reflection of the nation?

If it is then Britain is a tatty place.

This show is low-brow populist rubbish, tat. Really something to be ashamed of, like washing on a line. It was crude and vulgar and I hated it. Don't bring it back next year.

What are you on about? Any of the acts could of won it tonight! The best BGT so far imo, all the humour, fun and all controversy has been great to watch! What do you expect from BGT, we're a very small country and to be seeing talent like we have over the past couple weeks makes me proud to be British!

You're not a small country, though I appreciate the humility. The talent on show was tat, it was cabaret, it was tired, it had no class. It was life's defectives brought out to stare at with a few exceptions. The entire was wrapped in the flag, for the flag-waving Sun reading lame brain audience. It makes Britain and the british smell, to be frank. (I'm not British). Simon Cowell can apparently sell any old manure to the telly. And Ant and Dec are awful too. Don't blow your trumpet about this, (if you're British), you're wallowing in the smell of your own farts.

Imo, the stuck up, snobbish attitudes that lead people to so snootily rail against such a simple thing as a TV talent show demeans the individuals that hold them (I won't be so grandiose as to say it demeans the entire nation ).

Unfortunately, Nemo hasn't noticed that his/her's do indeed stink.

It's in the title - Britain. Also I was away on hols, and it was adverised everywhere in the pubs (in Portugal). So it was being watched abroad. It managed to epitomise, nay drag up old memories from a generation or more ago when Britishness abroad was an obnoxiousness thing to encounter. It would be Ok if the show was any good, but it wasn't. On any level. It was pure hype and tripe. I'm Irish, btw.

I'll name more than that...

Argentina, Australia, Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, USA, Austria, Hungary, Ireland, Lebanon, Mexico and the Phillipines.

(The Irish version was on RTE1 and called The All Ireland Talent Show).

Wikipedia has more details. Search "Got Talent Series".

I'm Irish, and I never heard of "The All Ireland Talent Show". I'm not doubting you, but I never heard of it.

I love British telly, we all watch it in Ireland, the X-Factor is great, but this show is awful.

They have some awful telly abroad. All the best programmes are bought from Britain and the US.

It was on Sunday nights on RTE1. Grainne Seoige hosted it, and Shane Lynch from Boyzone and Dana were two of the judges.

It was absolute rubbish from start to finish. Like most Irish television is.

(I can say this. I'm Irish.)

Personally, I found BGT better than X Factor. The only element of BGT (and the rest of the GTs) which is really 'negative' is the audience braying during the audition stages.

Yes, you are right, I have just edited it to back up my argument

Actually I haven't. It is common knowledge that it is a world wide brand and TV show format.

Well when you watch BGT you don't go into it expecting to be intellectually challenged. It's good, clean, harmless fun and that's all that matters.

Really? X-Factor is good because it brings forth genuine talent, like Leona Lewis. In common with BGT, it throws up some idiots and weirdos for people to laugh at. X-Factor is much better than BGt which is like a cross beteen a freak show and a low-brow "Last Night Of The Proms", with the flag waving, and the playing of "Land Of Hope And Glory". I blame the Sun which haas for the last couple of years being waging a campaign to bring back a horrible kind of patriotism which Britain use to wallow in.
