I hope you can help me resolve an issue with this unit.

I have just connected it today and gone through the setup wizard seemingly without a hitch - all seems fine so far (the EPG is empty at present so I guess that it populates overnight) however when thebox goes to standby (power saving mode) the only way to bring it to boot is to press the button on the unit itself - the remote button doesn't work for this. Is there a fix or do I have a faulty box?

welcome to the forum aston52... the epg should populate when you first setup the channels i think if not press the guide button and then wait until the picture appears behind it.

It has been reported that sometimes the remote needs pressing twice to get the box to boot-up

There is a very hard to spot protective film over the display under the flap. If left on it makes the remote control very unresponsive.

Check that you have not accidentally pressed a white button on the remote other than the pvr one. If you press any button on the remote the pvr button should flash red

Thanks Graham. I removed the film yesterday from the front of the flap - do you mean there one behind it too?

The PVR button flashes red so that's ok. The various buttons on the remote - channels/menu etc work fine. I'm stumped on this.

I tried turning the power saving feature off and this made no difference. So the box will go to standby with the red led but still won't wake up without the button on the unit being pressed. It's the same story whether the power saving is enabeld or not.

Also I noticed this am before I went to work that it had gone to standby - red led and time showing. When I got in tonight it was the same. I thought it would have goen back to power saving mode again during the day but thinking about it my guess is that it did some "housekeeping" during the day.

I wonder if this is just a duff box? Would putting new batteries in the remote or doing a factory reset be any point? If it's the box I'd just take it back to John Lewis for a swapout.

Yes there is a 2nd film under the flap and it's very hard to spot. Before you take it back, remove the film on the display and replace the batteries. A factory reset can't do any harm either. When you take out the remote control batteries short the remote battery terminals with a paper clip to discharge the power supply capacitors and force a reset of the remote.

I found my remote control hard to use and found it had to be pointed directly at the HDR until last night. Now I have removed this very hidden film the remote works as I expect it should.

Well I found the almost invisible 2nd film - why no mention in the manual? - bought new batteries and reset the remote, did a factory rest on the box, put it in standby. Then I eagerly pressed the remote to bring it out of standby and precisely - nothing. Rang Humax customer support who said "send us the remote and we'll replace it if faulty" (no mention of postage) - apparently people are so keen to get their hands on the remote that they wouldn't think of sending a replacement and trusting me to send the original one back (as if I'd keep one that doesn't work 100% just to have it clutter up my room).

So it's back to John Lewis for me. Such a shame to have this experience on an otherwise good product. My wife is now very keen on it so I hope they'll swap straightaway it rather than have me send it back to Humax.

I think they should stick a note in the box about the 2nd film. If you did not know about it's very unlikely to be spotted
