Quote:
“Britain's Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle was admitted to The Priory clinic last night suffering with exhaustion.

Police were summoned to her hotel and the singer was assessed under the Mental Health Act after she had an 'emotional breakdown' following her shock defeat in the show's final..........”

I'm not surprised, poor woman. Did anyone else see her demeanour, and how she was shaking, before the result was announced, and then the relief on her face when Diversity won? There's also press reports of a "backstage outburst" (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090531...t-6323e80.html) after the final.

Poor woman. She will have a good rest, and privacy, in the Priory.
I don't believe the story about running amok and throwing water after the show. The papers make up anything. We all saw how relieved she was not to have won yet on a news programme I just saw headlines of today's papers showing horrible pictures of her and saying she was upset about not winning. Rubbish.

There is also a full report in the Sun.

About the only place she'll finally be able to get some peace and quiet and time away from the media.

Being the runner up there won't be too many pre booked interviews etc so that shouldn't affect management too much.

She's better off in the clinic than in the supposed called safe house that they had her in before. Priory clinics are well used to keeping the media clear of their 'guests'.

It's breaking news on Sky News.

Surprisingly, I like the Sun's report better, it is more sensitive.
I am not surprised such a fragile lady from such a sheltered background is finding it so difficult to cope with all the attention. I sincerely hope she is looked after and not exploited. I hope she is allowed to express what she wants out of this experience and her needs taken into consideration. When she auditioned I am sure she had no idea she would have such impact.
The Priory will look after her for now.

She was only moved to another hotel. There never was a safe house.

The problem here is that if she really is struggling after losing, she could lose everything now (the album deal). It's hard to say whether that would be a good thing for her. Such a rapid crash back down to earth might not be good but continuing in this media whirlwind might not be great either.

It could just as easily have happened if she'd won. Media attention would have been even worse.

That is sad.

I think Piers is right, coming second may have been the best thing for her. Hopefully she can get the help she needs at the moment to cope again, and to feel better.

It sounds like she's in the right place anyway.

Poor Susan.

All in the name of entertainment, people are chewed up and cruelly spat out.
I hope she can find peace now.

Yes - we are very good at building people up then knocking them down. A rather nasty British character trait IMHO.

Hopefully the Americans will be nicer to Susan - if she ever gets the chance.

C'mon guys, this is well worn territory. She unexpectedly loses and suddenly the commercial plans are looking fragile. In view of this, an emergency plan to get back on the front pages has to be contrived.

The only shock about this story is that they weren't a little more original than cobbling together some Priory bollox.

Had she won it wouldn't have happened, as they wouldn't have needed a stunt to maintain her profile.

You have to be joking. Did you not see her hands, her whole body shaking, her stressed face, when she was on stage waiting for the final result? Every one of our family saw the danger signs and was worried for her.

I'm just glad that the hotel staff had the sense to call someone.

The compassion in this thread was refreshing but its no surprise that it had to be brought to an end.

Gotta love you conspiracy theorists! Was the moon landing a hoax?

I can't help thinking that Susan might be better off going back home to her cat and her ordinary life for a while. She has had to cope with unbearable pressure from the media (particularly the red top papers and the Mail) which anyone would find hard to deal with.

Although the attention from America has been positive it will all have been added pressure.

I wish her all the best for the future whichever avenue she decides to persue

She is quite obviously unstable and cannot cope with all that has happened to her in the last few weeks.

Get her well and then let her return to her home surrounded by her family and friends who know her and where she feels safe and secure.

I was thinking the same - some R&R back in her home town with people who know her, and whom she knows, might be the best therapy for her.

Trouble is, the tour starts on 12th June - doesn't leave much time at all.

In all honesty I feel that she should not even attempt to do this tour. Her mental stability is in serious question. Doing the tour will do her more harm than good in my opinion.

I just hope someone at the clinic tells it like it is and recommends that she is not well enough to perform on this tour.

This is now 'breaking news' on the BBC News and Sky News websites.

They can have her. She's over-rated, from reports quite diva-ish and she was cringworthily embarrasing when interviewed on BGT. If she is mentally unstable and that is the cause of her outbursts I apologise (but remember she's been admitted for exhaustion so docs don't thinks so yet) however from what I've heard about her and seen of her she's not as sweet as was made out. There again, media pressure and all that.
