Unless exhaustion is just something to tell the public. This is total speculation of course, just based on the fact that 'exhaustion' has been used as something to tell the media with a lot of celebrities in the past. Personally, the fact that police and ambulance were required suggests to me that it may been more serious than just 'exhaustion', but a) I may be oversimplifying serious exhaustion here, and b) they may have just been trying to be cautious.

I do agree that she's overhyped though, although that is down to the media etc, not her. I think somehow that she will be happier in the long-term out of the limelight too.

I can't say I'm truly surprised. I never got to see her until recently, when I watched her in the semi final and then the final. I knew pretty much immediately there was something about her that wasn't quite the full ticket.

Very sad ; she was under tremendous pressure for the last week.

I still think it was outrageous the way the tabloids turned on her.She threw a minor wobbler but the press portrayed her as someone who was "cracking up" and "at boiling point".I've a feeling they may have helped tip her over the edge.

She has no history of being hospitalised for mental health problems to the best of my knowledge. It's obvious that the extreme stress of the last week has finally taken it's toll.

How sad this news is of Susan. She is just not equipped to cope with all that is happening to her. I said ages ago that I hoped someone was looking after her.

Taking on the US might not be advisable.

Poor Susan. I hope she recovers soon. A little peace and quiet is what she really needs.

I don't know anything about all this as i never watched til the final. Does she have family? They never mentioned anyone or showed anybody rooting for her. Does she have any support? She seemed to be very alone. Of course she could have loads of family like i say i don't know, just watching the BBC news and feel sorry for her. I hope she has real people looking out for her rather than Simon type people iykwim.

Apparently she had an outburst in a London hotel and was swearing and shouting and running about. She was taken from the hotel to a doctor and was then voluntarily sectioned under the mental health act.

Not surprised after the way she has been lifted by the media, then brought down the last week
And the public have been bad as well, here is a womam who was bullied and mocked most of her life
I think the media and the people who ran her down and called her some horrible names are a disgrace

Whatever the real story is I hope she can find some peace and calmness for herself. The picture of her in the Sun, is of an exhausted, anxious woman. Her wandering around the stage during the results show on Saturday should have been a warning as to her mental state. This is the other side of showbiz and its not nice. I've got to slightly agree with Carol Malone in her article about SB. CM said she won't ever be able to have the same level of peace in her home town she once had, it will take some time but I think she can get it back. I hope she has some good, emotionally strong family members that can encourage to weigh it all up and ask her is it worth it. Look at what you'll be sacrificing, your mental health.

All the best, get well soon SB, then go back to your cats, (I mean that in the nicest way).

Psychologist discussing Susan on GMTV. People with learning difficulties - their understanding and expectations and the ability to cope are severely compromised. A 12 year old can deal better than someone like Susan. Feels Susan left to her own devices. Unlike BB, where psychologists on hand to deal with what is happening, no similar support on BGT.

No wonder Susan has crashed, Hollie and Aidan reacted.

Simon Cowell needs to change things next year, if we are going to invite anyone who is other than someone with nerves of steel and strong coping mechanisms.

I hope Susan can overcome this.

Poor Susan she wasn't my fav but I feel for her now. I remember watching the final, thinking she didn't seem right. I hope she's ok soon. Give her some time to go back home and be with friends and family, then let her re-enter the limelight.

Susan is very typical of someone with her type of "learning difficulties." Her erratic behavior and intelligence are covered up well by her injecting some humour. Susan needs looking after and it sounds as though she hasn't been. Bless her she can sing but I doubt she will want to for long. People like Susan like to have things in a routine and not all over the place.
The difference between Hollie and Aidan is vast. Simon was unecessarilly mean to Aidan considering it was the final. I thought Aidan was well controlled. An adult may have shed a tear too.

Piers Morgan is on GMTV at 8.10am - not sure what he thinks his qualifications are to discuss this!
Also Diversity at 7.40.

Why now, the woman is ill, its all been far too much for her from day one, surely someone would have noticed before this and got her help.. maybe Wee Hollies mum should take note of what pressure like this can do.

The problem is now that SyCo have her signed up, she will go on the BGT tour, record an album and do all the talk shows/tour the States.

Cowell and company dont give a stuff if they wear her out as long as she makes money for them.......I seriously doubt her ability to cope with the upcoming workload and the pressure that will come with it, and its a shame....Im convinced that most of the stories in the press were leaked to drum up a dramatic "will she/wont she" final

SyCo should realise that there is a person behind the "product" and in this case the person is a naive woman thrust into the spotlight

Just to add a few comments on here for Susan.

Hope she feels better soon. Time out will do her the world of good and help put this all into some perspective. Hopefully too, Susan will then begin to realise her future is rosy from now on.

The people to blame are not her critics, it's the press and those ridiculous fans who perpetutuated the myth that this woman was some Angel sent from Heaven to show everything that was wrong with the World today. They set this simple woman up on to a pedestal that she could never get down from unless she fell hard and harmed herself, which sadly appears to have happened. Celebs Oprah Winfrey & Demi Moore, with their endorsement and hysteria after seeing/hearing a very cleverly manipulated performance of ONE song must take some of the blame too, because their fame whipped things up even further and out of control.
People on this board with their ' Dear Susan, meek and wonderful angel from Heaven' needed to get a reality check but sadly there's millions of gullible people like that, particularly in the US.
It raises all sports of questions about what we consider makes a person happy and fullfilled. And with Susan, it's probably not fame at all. she rightly wants is to sing and have appreciation & recognition for having a good singing voice but I seriously doubt she could cope with global stardom. If BMG/Sony milk her for her 5 minutes of fame they could ruin her life forever..and providing her with a bevy of psychologists on the way shouldn't be enough to satisfy their consciences either.

This is very sad....I presume nobody from the program will take responsibility for this.
Yes she has a good voice but it was obvious to see from the semi final she appeared in and the final that Susan wasn't in a good mental state.

Maybe it would now be better for her to resume her uncomplicated life in Scotland.

No amount of fame and attention is worth risking your mental well being. The public, the papers, Syco...Its no use playing the blame game now. Whoever is looking after her just needs to ensure her welfare comes first, and if that means cancelling the tour/interviews in America then so be it.

This is all very sad.

The BGT team obviously realised that Susan Boyle's "ugly duckling turning to a swan" story would hit the headlines because it was such a good news event - so they milked it for all it is worth. Then, once she had captured the public's attention, some parts (not all) of the press decided they needed a bit of a villain and they turned on her.

So, to me at least, a lot of the blame has to be placed firmly with the BGT publicity team. Whatever excuses they come out with now about how they "support" the acts, they are the ones who plant the stories in the press in the first place.

We always get a flurry of stories about the acts appearing in the tabloids on Thursdays and Fridays, just to rake up interest in that weekend's show. This has happened for years now with all these "talent" contests - Pop Idol, X Factor and now BGT.

The publicity teams and the press are both complicit in this as it not only keeps the show's viewing figures up but also helps to improve newspaper sales as well.

Regardless of what you may think about Susan Boyle, isn't it time we moved on from using these terribly cynical methods that cause such a lot of hurt to people who are not prepared for it?

Poor thing. I am no fan of the Boyle but she is yet another naive soul who has been eaten up and spat out by the media.

She clearly has mental health issues so why on earth was she not looked after better. The show must have some sort duty of care to its contestants and the vulnerables like Hollie and Susan need more support.

Susan could not have known what she was getting into and she has been used and abused in the efforts to up the ratings.

Its not as if its the first time SyCo has used a person to ramp up ratings, they did the same to Diana Vickers in last years X Factor, when she missed a show due to an illness, creating a media backlass on the lass

I think Susan will be OK after she has had a rest and she should then reassess the situation and decide what she wants. She has done a lot for BGT, raising its profile world-wide, she has got Amanda a foot in the US media door and the producers should make sure she gets something out of it, even if she does decide that stardom isn't for her.

I think the newspaper reports about her behaviour have sadly been vastly exaggerated. Diversity was on GMTV just now (they are great) and they said that Susan is a lovely lady, even more gracious off-stage than she was on it and they had a lot of fun with her, she danced and laughed with them. That is the third act I have heard speak highly of her on TV.

She should maybe pull out of the tour unless she really wants to do it, make her album, not rushed in three days as Simon allegedly plans, but at a pace right for her - and go to the States if and when she wants to. It would be sad if the pressure of the last weeks and the failure of the show to properly protect her took away all her dreams. I think that once the media frenzy dies down things will be different for Susan and she can have her singing career, a lower-key one maybe probably better for her.

Totally agree.

The mass hysteria and bandwagon jumping from across the pond was the biggest contibutor to this unprecedented situation where one single performance was blown up out of all proportion.
