I've rented The Wrestler on Blu-Ray and have tried playing it on my PS3 but it won't go much further than the copyright notice. The screen on my TV just goes blank after the "Coming Soon..."

I've tried playing the other Blu-Ray movies that I own and they work fine.

Do I have to change any of the system settings to get it to work or perchance is it just this particular disk that's faulty?

EDIT: I suppose I should have posted this in the PS3 forum.

Assuming you are using the wireless internet connection have you checked you have the latest firmware.

Or it could simply be a dodgy disc

There have been a couple of times with my PS3, even after the latest firmware, that it has taken a LONG time for the Blu-ray to install and come on. Maybe just leave it a bit longer.

I think I waited about 3-4 minutes and gave up. Should I have waited longer?

My PS3 has the latest firmware update installed and I have actually been back and got a duplicate rental copy and it still doesn't work. I can only assume that the problem is with this particular film.

one of my son's ps3's would not play any disks at all after doing one particular firmware update.

Not applicable in this case but interesting to note that the US Bluray of My Bloody Valentine is region free However after prompts to update the PS3 the disc then became Region A only and unplayable although it was possible to delete the info that caused it.

More than likely a bad disc. Rental discs get HUGE amounts of abuse. Some of the discs I got from LoveFilm were shockingly bad condition.
