Being a pensioner I have limited means. Also Like many of my age I use a hearing aid. Subtitles are a help, but can be detrimental to some programs. Lately I have bought a Panasonic 32LXD85, that is not too bad sound-wise, but without subtitles it has to be turned up beyond OH's tolerance. She would not view lots of extra wires agreeably either.

Given all the above facts, what would be your suggestions to improve my sound experience within OH's wish for lower volume?

No matter what system you install it will need to be turned up for you to hear it.

There are specialist aids on the market that are designed for TV listening - these may be better suited.

Alternatively you could get a pair wireless headphones, but you would have to check the TV specs and make sure the TV's onboard speaker system isn't turned off when you plug the headphones in.

Was thinking that better quality might help. Headphones and on board speaker system off would be as much, if not more an annoyance, than at present to OH.

You missed the point, you listen via the headphones, and your OH listens via the speakers as normal.

You could also have a look at an induction loop system. YTou can put your hearing aid on T and hear the TV sound clearly. Everyone else can hear the TV as normal.

The RNID is a good place to start when looking for info on loop systems. Here's a link to the correct page [LINK]

Thanks very interesting .
Laying aside the lug hole problem, but with the other stricture about extra wires laying around, what would a budget way of improving sound quality be?

Feed the audio output from the TV through your stereo system - but it's unlikely to help for your poor hearing, whilst not been too loud for your OH.

If you've got £20 tp spend and a Lidl nearby,
have a look at these wireless headphones:
