Closing with effect on July 31st for good!

Where else will we all go? I hope there's another Doctor Who forum with a set reports section, I won't be able to cope this Summer without being able to see pics of Series Five being filmed!

Come here? Ah I'm sure something else will come up, although I'm also sure the rate the episode threads here are going to get more negative as a result of this.

The ming mongs are now homeless.

Hopefully they worst of the DWF moderators and posters will create their own little forum where they can carry on as before.

Everyone else is more than welcome here. And it's all free!

Never visited it before but had heard of it, I find the press release amusing. Essentially the creator is saying "I'm proud of the community I established, but I created it and you can't have it, go make your own!"
Love it!

And let's not forget; it's a Press Release for the closing of an Internet Message Board!

Apparently, they're starting up a new forum called 'Gallifrey Base', so I guess the majority of OG regulars will just migrate over there.

Regards,

Cypher

Thats Shaun all over. I have a great respect for the community he created and the huge amounts of work he put into the site.

Personally however......

I tend to visit the news page quite reguarly just to keep up with things. Is there another site with a news page as good or better than that?

Gallifrey Base appears to be getting the doctorwhoforum.com URL, so I suppose you could call it a regeneration rather than a death, if you're in a glass half full kind of mood.

Excellent. I suppose it would be too much to hope for for them to keep all the posts and just transfer user accounts over...? (I'm going to look myself, but it's taking forever to load!)

ETA: Nope, I see now that the posts will not be carried over and we will have to register again, but Steve is welcoming all formerly banned people to start over with a clean slate.

Doctor Who online has a thread on set reports. Quite often it involves those who post on DWForum first but I still find it useful.

To be fair, what it doesn't go into is the tax reasons for not doing so. DWF kind of fell between the two main stools of internet board behaviour in that it was not a money making business (ala Digital Spy) nor a simple volunteer 'hobby' type ad hoc board.

Instead, it was funded by donations from voluntary patrons and, so Shaun wouldn't have to pay tax on those donations and they could go entirely to pay for the site, DWF was actually set up as a legal entity in its own right as a non-profit organization.

However, it seems that handing over ownership of this non-profit legal entity and its assets to somebody else is a tax law minefield and impractical. This seems, reading between the lines, to be why, formally, DWF is ceasing to exist even as a new, practically identical forum takes its place.

And good riddance to them too! Perhaps now Doctor Who fans can finally get rid of the bitchy overdramatic snobbish stereotypes and 'questionable' staffing that plagued OG and DWF for so long.

Of course the trouble is that whether you like the quality of poster at DWF or not, the dissolution of DWF would simply mean a lot of em'll be hanging about your forum instead.

There's already been complaints from regulars on a few other boards that there's such an influx of 'refugees' that long time regulars on those boards are getting lost in the shuffle... and DWF doesn't even close for another two months!

LOL!!! Couldn't agree more! The self-styled "super-fans" who think they own the show - what a pathetic shower of overly-officious tosspots.

There's a new site up already, Outpostwho.

The person who set it up has just copied everything from DWF and already has nearly 300 members in 1 day.

Be more specific, a google search for outpost who has Outpost Gallifrey top of the list, and the new site nowhere to be seen. Address please?

Perhaps if you searched for Outpostwho.com or summit like that, you might have more luck

Outpost Who isn't listed on Google just yet, mainly because someone forgot to pay for it.....

Outpostwho.com is the address, feel free to register.

It's a work in progress, so if there's something you're not fond of, post it in the help section, all things are considered!

It's no loss whatsoever! A bunch of trolling, self important cliques have overrun the place lately. Assorted "warriors", "diciples" and "squads" of fans behaving like 3 year olds in a creche. Good riddance to em

Ah, but like I said upthread, it's not like it's those people who are disappearing. If there's any group whose posting style or attitude you dislike on DWF, it's closure simply means you're now more likely to run into them on the sites you do post on.

So not much of a cause for celebration there...
