Perhaps the first game of many we will see to suffer because of the PS Pro?
PS4 Pro is a abomination.

But despite my opinions on that I'm buying this game, will be downloading shortly.

One thing that's getting a lot of complaints are button prompts. They appear throughout the whole game apparently, even for simple things like jump or throw/drop a barrel, and you can't turn them off. Yet at the same time the game gives you no hints at all on what you do to encourage TrIco carry out certain actions. That seems messed up.

Been playing this for a bit now. The hints popping up every 2 seconds does get annoying and ruins the immersion a bit.

But that's my only complaint, really liking it so far.

If I said this game reminds me of an early tomb raider game with a little boy and a big dog, would I be classified as insane?

Going to buy this today no more delays, it looks so cool

3 things I dislike about the game. 1 You can't manually save, it auto saves but it doesn't tell you when it does it. So when you stop playing I just hoped it has saved my progress 2. Camera angles can be tricky when in close quarters with Trico and 3, of course the hints popping up.

But despite all that I'm still thoroughly enjoying my time with this game, it very much feel and play like ico and shadows of the colossus, the world is mysteries and beautiful.

That's actually one of my pet hates in games, when it auto-saves but there's no indication it's doing so.

I'm hoping there's a patch that gives the option to remove the hints if you want by the time I play the game at Christmas, it's daft the game's still telling you how the drop or throw a barrel when you're 7 or 8 hours in!

Apparently it saves every time you enter a new location, it's just trying to figure out when that is lol. But all games should have manual saving, mean I have OCD with this sort of thing because I like to save my games every 5 seconds

I'm always looking for a way through for Trico when he's quite capable of making his own way through what seems like a dead end, im trying to hard haha. Trico is great, cute and funny'ish.

Enjoyable game so far.

Picked up my copy today, one thing that struck as how plain and uninspiring the case artwork and layout was. I admit it's nothing major but I was expecting something a bit more interesting for this game.

I guess art is subjective, but I like it. I went for this edition which comes with a sleeve cover with different art work which I think is better though http://www.shopto.net/video-games/ps...launch-edition

It's something like if I haven't heard about this game before and I saw that cover, I would be curious about it.

It might be to appeal to the US market, they have this idea over there that games with box art featuring characters sell better.

A good example is Ico, we got this, and the US got this. Which is just awful, it's also why all the Final Fantasy covers are crap in the US as well. And Heavy Rain now I'm thinking about it.

It wasn't just the art, there's a lot of blank space around the front and back with just 4 screenshots and a few words of description. Anyway, as I said, it's no biggie just an observation.

Ok I would like to know why this runs so poorly on the PS4, it looks pretty but these graphics aren't beyond the PS4, not even close in my opinion. The cynic in me thinks 'gimped' in favour of the Pro.

Looks and runs good for me.

The graphics are in keeping with Ico and Shadows of The Colossus, it's just the art style. Fits in with the world in my opinion.

They've been trying to make this game for 9 years, and people think it's "issues" are down to a console that's been out for 4 weeks. LOL.

How long have developers had the Pro hardware, 12 months, 18 months so i dont know what 4 weeks has to do with anything. Deliberate or not they churned out a game on the first hardware it would run on, regardless of the lesser hardwares ability. They held out for the Pro before releasing this, no doubt about that.

I hope that's not something we're going to see more and more in future games, a that'll do attitude to games on the standard PS4 with all the effort going into Pro versions. Publishers need to remember the vast majority of PS4 owners have the standard version and that will be the case for some time.

Oh I think that is definitely on the cards, few more games like this and foolish among us will be upgrading to get the 'best experience', pfft.

Honestly, I think you're vastly underestimating how demanding this game is on the hardware. Just consider Trico's feather physics and animation for a start.

Let's apply a little logical thinking and look at how the game runs on the different PS4 models.

In PS4 Base mode the game runs at 1080p @ 30 fps with small drops. On the PS4 Pro (where it runs in 1890p) the frame rate really isn't any better. The game still struggles with a consistent 30fps there as well.

And crucially, when Pro is being limited to 1080p is the only time the game hits a consistent 30fps. And they've capped it there, suggesting it can't reliably manage anything significantly higher.

And I do mean "limited". There's no graphics options in the game. The only way to get that locked 30fps is to have it running on a 1080p TV or, if you have a UHD set, you have to force the Pro into 1080p mode via the OS.

The simple fact is, this is a damn difficult game to run. On PS3 it managed 15fps in 720p before the move to PS4.

As for the idea that Sony are purposefully promoting Pro through TLG, I see no evidence of that. Pro support isn't even mentioned in any patch notes, let alone in any marketing! Without the likes of Digital Foundry counting pixels and comparing frame rates, the vast majority of PS4 players wouldn't know there was any difference.

I know you really want it to be true, but thinking about it logically I just don't see how it can be.

TLDR; The frame rate is just as bad on Pro, PS4's not being gimped.

A new patch is now available for the game. Sony are saying it's for various fixes and improvements but nothing specific yet, however a Reddit user is saying one thing it does is remove those annoying prompts throughout the game that many people don't like. I knew holding off playing it until Christmas would pay off.

Finally got round to playing it for a while on Christmas Day, God the camera and controls are cumbersome. It's a game you really have to persevere with as you battle to even see anything with Trico constantly getting in the way in confined spaces, and I can understand how less patient people get frustrated with it. I'll stick with it as Fumito Ueda creates some fascinating game worlds but I don't think it will be a completely enjoyable experience.

So, besides the date camera/controls, is it worth a buy? It's only £25 at Argos
