Margaret's telegraph column about tonight's show

I love her comments, it's interesting what she says about all 5 of the candidates left.

Karren Brady is indeed interviewing again this year for all those who wondered.

Thanks for that! Great write up .... def can't wait for tonight now, esp the boardroom!

I love Margaret, and she's clearly got a soft spot ( bit of a crush ) for James

My "instinct" says it's Lorraine, Kate, & James for the chop tonight.

^^^My instinct is in agreement with yours! I'd love the final to be James and Yasmina, but I think it will be Debra and Yasmina.

I agree - I think Kate's cool demeanor could be the undoing of her.

As much as I love him I think James is going tonight. I don't think Alan has seen anything really impressive about him yet, he's only managed to avoid being fired when he's up against someone even weaker. Lorraine actually seems to be improving and taking on board Sir Alan's comments so I think she could make it to the final and I don't know if I'm alone on this but I'm starting to quite like her. I think she's actually a bit of a comedian and is far more entertaining than Yasmina, who certainly doesn't have that 'something special' in my eyes!

The main thing I got was James fired and Yasmina hired.

The middle three and who joins Yasmina seemed to be a little unclear.

There is mixed reports about Debra and I think it will depend on whether they think her abrasiveness and the fact they don't think she always listens too well will be her undoing.

With Lorraine; it's clear they rate her business acumen but the concern is over her communications skills and how she riles people up. Add her lying on her CV.

Kate; well I'm a bit mixed on that. On one hand they don't criticise her really. It seems she does well in the interviews and doesn't drop the facade; but they seem to suggest they don't think she wants the job enough, have enough passion or creative spark. But, in essense, they don't really slate any of her attributes so much, but it's the biggest hurdle to overcome. The comment about her seems to be her "business personality" and I think in Kate's case it is going to be down to whether they prefer her style or Debra's and Lorraine's. SAS may already have Yasmina in mind and may choose to decide that the final task is Kate's chance to prove her passion and creative side, as that is exactly the task that has been set.

I would have said the second person in the final was between Debra and Kate though, especially if Lorraine has lied on her CV with already having a black mark for how she riles people up.

Ideally Lorraine for me for the finals against Yasmina BUT don't think the producers will let that happen with the fraud case looming against Lorraine & family, well her father in particular.

For me; ideally would be Kate and Yasmina or Kate and Debra. Although I'm not sure that will actually happen now after what I've read.

I can't see Debra's and Lorraine's firings reducing the rest of the contestants to tears , so maybe that's James' firing since they all have positive things to say about him?

Yasmina seems like a cert for the final with the "Yasmina’s determination to succeed comes out tonight via a startling revelation about her restaurant business" comment. The determination bit will probably show her desire for the job.

Yes I was wondering about that bit too ... James is the only one all the girls would feel sad about leaving ... as a group of girls, I think it's very much each girl for her own ... but James is a bit like their big protective brother now and a confident to Yasmina and a good friend to the rest ...

On the other hand I wonder if James might do a Katie Hopkins and bow out in the boardroom to give the girls a chance ... would be a very gentlemanly thing to do and would certainly reduce everyone to tears!!

Either way I don't want James to go

It was reported in the newspapers a while ago that Lorraine's father was under investigation for tax evasion.

I think it was also reported that her father was still under investigation, but she was no longer. The show's makers I think have said they were satisfied.

Just from Margaret's comments, I get:

James' firing is the one that reduces them to tears;
Kate, lack-lustre, robotic, gets fired;
Lorraine, ditto. (Margaret, reading between the lines, always sounds impatient with Lorraine, seems to find her irritating.)
Making Debra and Yasmina the finalists.

Can't wait to see these interviews!

"There is an extraordinary outpouring of emotion later on in the boardroom, when the firing of one candidate reduces the others to tears."

Wow, though. I'm now thinking more about who's crying than who's going. Can you imagine an 'outpouring of emotion' from Debra or Kate? It must be some shock of a firing...

Margaret didn't make much sense though. I havn't seen any creativity from Debra or Yasmina either. Both make bigger mistakes and are more difficult to work with than Kate . All three could run something - though Debra might be on her own. Yasmina's biggest bit of creativity was knowing that if you sell cheap food at high priices you make money. Kate has been making the right business points more often and was the only one to get the shopping task choice right . The determination point is shallow too - ruthlessness may not be the right strategy and it may just reflect frustration, desperation, lack of alternatives or immaturity.
