What a rip off
Having had a very painful tooth abscess for a week or so I've been unable to eat anything that requires even slight chewing so I took a trip to the supermarket to stock up on soup and rice pudding.
Rice pudding was easy with Sainsburys luxury creamed rice pud stright out the can being by far the best out there at a cheap price but when it came to the soups I thought I'd treat myself so went for the expensive ones including lobster bisque, clam chowder as well as the old faithfuls like oxtail, tomato etc etc, I came across this http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/food/baxter-...beef-consomme/ and thought I'd give it a try after reading the label.... Well all I can say is I'm in the wrong job, I'm sure its just weakly made bovril, in fact I'd stake my life on it, they could have at least made it a decent strength. What a rip off |

I'm funny with my soups after having a good few disappointments lately. When I feel ill (which with morning sickness and nausea that can last all day) I just have a can of soup so I'm still getting my vitamins etc.
But I've tried various flavours and brands and the only ones that appeal to me now are Heinz, and its the plain "old" flavours like Tomato, Scotch Broth, Lentil, Vegetable, chicken noodle, cream of chicken etc. I tried a tin of Chunky soup lately - think I got it from Aldi? cant quite remember, but it was crap ![]() And some of these new Baxters flavours are rubbish IMO. It's a shame because they charge enough for them these days and only really become worth the money when on offer. I seem to remember tins of Heinz soup being 40 odd pence, mind you this was a while back but I still find it hard to justify the price of 82p for a small can of soup!. Would much rather make my own for probably the same price for a much bigger pot! |

![]() Generally I make my own soups - they are a piece of cake to make and you can put anything you want in them. |

Lidl chicken soup (Manor House) is very good.
It's the only soup I don't bother to make myself. |

Well to be honest - that's what a consomme is.
A thin, watery soup. I'll answer that myself... yes, the point is I wouldn't expect to be able to sell it as a "luxury"

If you're that concerned over the price of a tin of rice pudding/soup then make them yourself - you could probably get a bag of pudding rice for the same price as a couple of cans (and it would do many portions) and soups are so quick, cheap and easy to make.
