For me it has to be When Rose turned up at the end of episode 1, series 4 -- totally was not expecting it - and the press really kept it quiet too!

Actually yea you're right there that caught everyone by surprise, they did a good job of keeping that under wraps.

My favourite scary moment though? Well let's not count the Weeping Angels because they're too obvious... so i;m going to go with the Carrionites opening in "Shakespeare Code" top class and genuinley scary.

Just got to add... I obtained a Doctor Who obsession towards the end of series 3... but.... my obsession reached new levels after the Stolen Earth episode with the regeneration cliffhanger. That left me on tenterhooks for the entire week and it was the storyline everyone talked about. So got to add that as a "Wow" moment.

For me it was the end of Utopia, Series 3 - "Even this thing never worked!" (holds out a pocket watch).

From that moment on, pure brilliant spine-chilling drama.

Same for me. That EXACT same moment! I was so excited I couldn't believe it.

Oh yeah, the way the "TO. BE. CONTINUED" words banged onto the screen at the end! Loved it!

I already knew that was going to happen when I saw it I was too busy being annoyed I had had it ruined to enjoy it as i was sitting there thinking how clever it was, and how I'd have loved to have been surprised! Brilliant writing, the whole concept of the chameleon arch and fob watch...

I think this was my moment - I kind of knew this was going to happen (stupid spoilers...) but it didn't matter to me - "I am The Master!" just gave me chills, made me bounce up and down and generally grin till my face hurt!

oooh there has been loads for me (I'm easily wowed!!). Definately Rose at the end of PoC-I couldn't sleep that night I was sooo excited!
All the bits listed above about Utopia and i loved the To Be Continued bit.

*thinks*
Seeing the TARDIS for the first time.
Seeing inside the TARDIS for the first time.
Loved the bit in 'Dalek' with The Doctor and the Dalek in chains.
I'm sure other people will other things and I'll go 'oh yeah and that bit!!'

UTOPIA!!!!

the whole episode is good with Jack coming back and him and The Doctor catching up and Professor Yana being so good and then the fob watch and it all kicks in. The music is brilliant too. It really adds to it

A slight change of direction for me - the ending of Series 2, from the moment just after Rose arrives in the parallel world to Bad Wolf Bay. Heart-breaking, powerful and moving - brilliantly written, directed and performed. Nothing since has really topped that scene(s) for me. Just wow.

The fob watch moment was gobsmacking. Also, back in series one:

1. "Zombiegran" screaming and seeping gas, looming into the camera, at the beginning of The Unquiet Dead. Terrifying.

2. Richard Wilson and the gas mask. My heart missed a beat in horror.

Oh so many .. The stunning Tennant/Simm combination in the series3 finale trilogy.Professor Yana's fury as he seen who he was.

David's wonderful chemistry with Catherine and Billie..
I go every time for the episodes that explore the chemistry and interaction between the Doctor and companion .. the devastation of Doomsday and Journey's end epic imo

Or wonderful sensitive episodes like Human Nature/Family of blood and Midnight that take the Doctor to a new experience and learning.I love that .

Thats wow for me every time .

I think I'd have to go for the fob watch in Utopia. Even though we all knew the Master was returning, and I think we all guessed a fob watch would be involved after seeing Human Nature. How it would happen was still a nice surprise.

Have to say seeing the Daleks appear from the Void Ship in Army of Ghost was a real 'Yes, yes, yes!' moment for me.

The Rose appearance in Partners in Crime made me go 'Oooo' and they did hide that well. But it also made me think 'oh f**k she's back!'

For me the scariest bit was in TEC/DD When they are listening to the recording of Jamie and then they realse that the tape has long stopped

"I'M HERE" - Scared the crap out of me

The WOW factor for me was in Turm left when "Bad Wolf" appeared everywhere

I'm going to say Bad Wolf 2-Parter at the end of Series 1, why? Because it wasn't over blown and nothing was a let down, the way the Daleks actually seemed powerful, the way the 9th Doctor handled things, the way he tricks Rose into going Home and the Emergency Program broadcast and just the entire way it all unfolded right up to the Regeneration it was just a perfect balance of Drama, Action and Being Serious. Also the music in these episodes (and the entire Series 1) was just perfect, none of this over blown Orchestra stuff we have now, it was actual fitting music at the right volumes, The Doctors Theme at the end mixed in with the Space Station sounds was just brilliant.

As for a Second one, it has to be the ending of Utopia, this is second because I consider this the best Cliffhanger, but sadly it had a crappy resolve, as do most New Who Cliffhangers bar the odd few, but the writing, the tension, the overblown music actually fitting for once and the way it just flowed, those last 15 minutes just fly by it's that action packed and when the newly regenerated Master mocks The Doctor and uses the TARDIS to get out of there, leaving Him, Martha and Jack stranded whilst under attack was just great on the edge of your seat stuff and it had a bit of class as the End Credits just rolled in as if to say "HAH You've got to watch it Next Week!"

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the Big Endings RTD has gone for, that TO BE CONTINUED font which is now used in every new promo for new episodes just reminds me of cheap 80's action films.

I kind of agree. There's an obvious pattern of the finales getting more and more epic each series. The Series 1 finale had the best combination of drama, humour, emotion and the pace flowed brilliantly. Series 2, for me, saw the beginning of the 'two-minute resolutions' to problems.

It took Chris Eccleston 30 mins screen-time to think of and execute (well, not really) a solution to wipe out the Daleks, but let a perfectly explanatory godess Rose come and do it for him when he couldn't have the gutts to wipe out two races. This is quality drama.

The two-minute solution of getting rid of the Daleks and Cybermen in 'Doomsday' was a bit...too quick, not much of a challenge - but of course the Doc lost Rose in the process, thats where the quality drama was.

Whilst I still proudly think that the last ten minutes of 'Utopia' series 3 was the most fantasic 'big-bad' setup in the series' history, the last twenty minutes of 'Last of the Time Lords' IMO had the worst resolution so far. It was too unlikely and too unpredictable. The explanation took about 30s screen-time, which wasn't enough, and at the time was drowned out by loud music. I actually prefered the Time Lord killer gun plot.

My main problem with the Series 4 finale was 'The Stolen Earth' - felt like too much of a setup for 'Journey's End', which I thought was fantastic. The DoctorDonna was, lets be honest, a very logical outcome since we were introduced to a HumanDoctor half an hour earlier. Three nerds at a computer, anything could happen to those bloody Daleks and it'd make sense! I also thought the back-and-forth between the Doctor and Davros brought back some of that immersive taunting that we saw in the Series 1 finale, which I really appreciated.

All in all, though, as escapist entertainment, they've all been AMAZING!

I love the scene between The Doctor and Donna at the end of "Turn Left". The way The Doctor goes from happy to panic-striken in the space of about a minute, is brilliantly played by David Tennant. You can see it starting to dawn on him that the girl Donna is talking about might be Rose, and the look on his face when Donna Gives him the message, and he runs out to see the words Bad Wolf everywhere. Perfect scene.

I'm thinking more of the end of Turn Left:

Donna: "She said that..."
Doctor: "Who did?"
Donna: "That woman...I can't remember...
Doctor: "Well...she never existed now"
Donna: "No...but she said...the stars, she said said 'the stars are going out'
Doctor: "Yeah, well that world's gone"
Donna: "No, but she said it was all worlds. Every world. She said 'the darkness is coming, even here."
Doctor: "Who was she?" (I was like 'OMG!)
Donna: "I don't know"
Doctor: "What did she look like?"
Donna: "She was...blonde"
Doctor: "What was her name?" (I was like 'OMFG!!!!!!!')
Donna: "I don't know"
Doctor: "Donna, what was her name?"
Donna: "But she told me...to warn you...she said...two words..."
Doctor: "What two words? What were they? What did she say?"
Donna: "Bad Wolf"

Amazing amazing sequence until the end of the episode where the Dr and Donna run out and see Bad Wolf written everywhere, and brilliantly acted by Tennant and Catherine Tate too.

Probably my fav moment.

Sentimental favourite:

"K-9, out you come!"

That's when I began shouting and didn't stop until earth was home. The one returning companion or guest star they'd managed to keep secret.

For me it was both the realisation of the Master in Utopia, and Sarah Jane finding the Tardis in School Reunion.
