Making carbonated water - help
not_orange
04-06-2009
I'm very keen on sparkling water, especially adding different cordials to it etc...

I wondered if anyone has any advice on any "contraptions" that make the stuff for you, from tap water.

Oh yes - I don't want to spend a fortune on some fancy state of the art thingy.

Just something that will put some fizz into the water.

Thanks.

Thanks but at £48.93 that's a bit pricy.

£50?!!

How much were they in their 70's/80's heyday?

OP - just how much carbonated water are you going to be needing on a regular basis? Because if it's not a huge amount surely you can just get a bottle of soda water.

In ye olde days didn't people used to make it with a soda syphon?

Can you still get them?

I can get a 2 litre bottle from Sainsburys for 15p but it's a pain lugging it home. I just thought there might be some device that could turn tap water into sparkling without spending a fortune.

I thought they were only for chefs to make poncy foams

You can get brand new soda syphons like this one for about £30, or you can get retro ones form the 70's. They use little cartridges of CO2, and make about a litre at a time.

Why would anyone want to add pollution (CO2) to water (H2O) and progress the rate of Global Warming (BS)?

Not as much pollution as the morning after a night on a few pints of guiness and a late night curry.
