They are outright LYING aren't they?!!

They should say: "serves 4, but only if your family happen to be lepricorns"

Serves 4? I prepare all of my meals from scratch as only the finest , freshest produce will suffice for a palate as delicate as mine

You should write a letter of complaint and receive vouchers! You could buy 4 Fray Bentos pies next time

Use the following guide to pre-packaged food:

Serves 1. A Snack
Serves 2. A meal if you have 3-4 thick slices of bread
Serves 3. A meal. Might need a snack later (See Serves 1)
Serves 4. A good dinner.
Serves 5. Now your being greedy

The answer is yes.

Companies do what they can legally get away with. So I suppose if they can find four people out there who are satisfied with such a portion, they feel that they can claim it on their packaging. (Even though they are blatantly taking it out of context).

It's like those adverts that say "Nine out of ten people agree with us!" based on some shady statistic.

I often eat one which says that myself.

Is there actually any meat in those pies?! Should say suitable for vegetarians!

I know Birds eye chicken pies now have no chicken what so ever. I think the "Now with more chicken" must be a mis-print.

I wouldn't mind if they just had more veggies instead....its just gravy now :/

Birds Eye chicken bacon & cheddar cheese lattices still rule though!

Yeah, that's so weird isn't it?

I remember picking up some chicken product in the supermarket, and on the package it said "40% chicken".

I mean WTF? How can you have a chicken product that is only 40% chicken?

It means it will serve 4 if you buy 4 of that product...that's what they always fail to mention. The thing is...they don't state who they are aiming for...but definatly NOT the human species...

Microwave meals are/and only have ever been for simple snacks and for people that cannot be bothered to actually cook...BUT plastic never tasted nicer though...

They used to be quite good and I enjoyed them. The last 6 months or so they are just gravy. Maybe with three bits of carrot and 2-3 peas if your lucky. I thought it was a faulty batch but I retried a few months later and they are still empty.

Yes it says NOW WITH MORE CHICKEN. Now that really is a lie. Id like to see them prove there is more chicken. Unless before they had no chicken and it was fake or something.

Shame because they used to be nice.

40% chicken leftovers and 60% plastic!

I would have wrote to the manufacturers explaining this.

LOL probably.

It wasn't a pie or anything either, it was just a big piece of chicken covered in batter or something.

How on Earth can you have a big piece of chicken that is only 40% chicken... it really confuses me sometimes.

Look on the back. I bet water is the second largest ingredient.

This thread is rancid! Ready made meals are awful (unless they are veggie spaghetti bolognese from Asda. Ooo , I lived off them last year because I was staying with people who hated vegetarians) and people should cook their own meals. I shouldn't be eating pasta but spent 15minutes chopping onions (I admit to buying ready sliced most of the time) peppers , mushrooms etc yesterday.
I'm a good cook , it tasted great

Eeek!

This is why I don't buy 'meals' - I make them.

If we have chicken, it's chicken. If I feed 6 or 10, I am feeding 6 or 10 (and if I'm lucky I get to freeze some for hubby to take to work and microwave).

I pretty much make everything from scratch, unless I have a lazy day and bung a pizza or some fresh pasta and sauce on the table.

It's so much cheaper too to do it that way and it doesn't take any more effort than otherwise.

Not all ready meals are crap.

Uncle Ben's sweet and sour rice bowl was one of the tastiest things I ever ate. Sadly they are no more.

You're right, the quality of ready-meals has been decreasing constantly over the past few years.

I think it has something to do with cost-reduction.

I remember a time when they were really good...

There are much tastier things you could eat ,. why not make your own one day? It'd taste lovely! I do cheat sometimes and use ready made rice as it can be hard to repicate the taste at home.

Because have to.

1. Spend twice as much getting the ingredients
2. Spend a whole bunch on source pans and stuff
3. Spend hours preparing the ingredients.
4. Spend even longer cooking the ingredients
5. Spend 10 mins eating the result

This is not an efficient use of my time.

Bear in mind I dont eat ready meals every day. Just 2 times a week or so. I eat mostly plowman's style food. And pie and chips one a week (sometimes twice)

Sometimes its cos theyve got millions of calories in them and if you eat 2 of the tiny portions youll be paying for 2 seats on your next plane journey.

I'd love to know what is an efficient use of your time! You sound like a computer
Anyway , home made meals are good when you can be bothered. I like people cooking for me. I love pies and can eat pastry on its own
