Does anyone have the Panasonic NVHV60EBS video recorder? Having spent all afternoon researching it seems like the best for the money. Can get one locally for £80; don't really need an S-VHS video recorder.

Panasonic Link

Need a new video recorder as my current Aiwa is some eight years old, and I want something that can record from my new Sony VTX-D800U Freeview box - the Panasonic has an 'External Link' which will start and stop recording from the Sony timed program function. (This isn't the same as the Sony 'Smartlink' function.)

Thanks in advance.

I've had the earlier model and have been very pleased with it....

I used to sell and service TV and videos, the Panasonic videos are generally very reliable and perform well.

I'd sure recommend one

Hi,

Where did you pick up the Panasonic for £80?

Thanks,
matt

Comet had them for £90 or so, and I get a 10% discount there. I ended up getting the NVSV120EBS anyway, which I am very pleased with.

Tried to get a NVHV60EBS for my Mother-in-law last weekend but was informed by Comet staff that they're now obsolete and soon to be replaced by a newer model. Nothing on this on the Panasonic website though.

Bought the last NVHV60EBS at Argos nearby!

Ah - just be careful that you do actually get the Panasonic... When my wife went to give them the slip and pay she was told that a Sony may be offered in place of the Panasonic, so we checked before actually letting them stamp the receipt as received. We got the last one, luckily.

Thanks. I've been stung by that before. In January when I wanted to buy a DVD player for a friend, and last week when they gave me a used LG VCR which I got home and found the same fault as the person who had obviously returned it before me.

Just found this rogue mention of a Panasonic NVHV61EBS - could this be the new model?

Just called 24-7 Electrical and they confirmed the discontinued status of the HV60EBS and their records show the HV61EBS as being introduced in April.

It does look good - interesting that 24/7 are ahead of the Panasonic UK website...

Personally I prefer the slightly-retro stylings and considered button placement of the 60EBS, rather than the modern/dull look of the 61EBS with haphazqard button placment. The only thing would be if that is a cover for front AV sockets front-bottom-right?

Just picked up my 60EBS from Argos. They had five left, though they did read me out the "you might get an equivalent Sony" bumpf.

I intend to use it with my Netgem set top box.

Don't know what the panel is for; one of the reasons I went for the NVSV120EBS was that it has front AV input - which I don't think the NVHV60EBS has. Guess they could be offering it on the next version of it?

I went for a Pansonic VCR becasue of the 'external link' recording function, so I could record from the Sony Freeview box I've got. Just program the Sony to come on at the right time and right channel, stick a tape in the Panasonic VCR and press its 'external link' button and it starts recording when it senses over the SCART that the Sony has come on - and stops when it stops.

I got the impression that not all VCR's can do it that easily; you'd have to set the timer on both the Freeview box and the VCR.

Hope you're pleased with it, Matt!

You're right. Some VCRs do it, but only the Pana offers a choice of what method to use (pin8 or video signal). Philips and JVC do it only by video signal, which unfortunately currently renders them incompatible with my Netgem.

I did my research, too, so I'm sure the 60EB-S is good for me!

Video is perfect. Had a bit of trouble setting it up but only because of a faulty SCART cable that fell apart in my hands! After getting my spare one I was home and dry in 3 mins flat.

EXT LINK works a treat with my Netgem, too.
