Interesting stuff on talkSPORT today.
Ian Danter, when cueing up the station's coverage of Spurs v Barcelona in the Wembley Cup, announced the station's commentary team for that match will be Jim Proudfoot and Jason Cundy - only to be contradicted by a trailer for their coverage, which said the team would be Ian & Jason! ![]() Today's Friendlies:- Leyton Orient V Newcastle United - Ian Abrahams for talkSPORT (via phone) Sheffield Wednesday V Hull City - Graeme Lloyd for talkSPORT Notts County V Nottingham Forest - John Roder for R5L Preston North End V Stoke City - Dominic McGuiness for talkSPORT Peterborough United V Fulham - Daniel Freeman for talkSPORT |

Ian, many thanks for the Wembley Cup commentary information and also the Saturday details. ![]() Having ventured on the media player available on the talkSPORT website, just to clear a few things up: Quote:
It was Jim Proudfoot and Jason Cundy for the Tottenham V Barcelona game, no idea ab-oot if anyone was there for the earlier one.
It wouldn't surprise me if Clarkey was used as talkSPORT's pitchside reporter on the Spurs v Barcelona match (but would appreciate confirmation of this if anyone is able to). Also, do you know if Jim & Jason were presenting coverage, or if someone else/another pair were hosting? Quote:
Today's Friendlies:-
Leyton Orient V Newcastle United - Ian Abrahams for talkSPORT (via phone) Sheffield Wednesday V Hull City - Graeme Lloyd for talkSPORT Preston North End V Stoke City - Dominic McGuiness for talkSPORT Peterborough United V Fulham - Daniel Freeman for talkSPORT However, they have no archived report on Sheffield Wednesday-Hull City, but instead have one on the Leeds-Blackburn friendly. To my ears, the reporter sounds like Grahame Lloyd (but I could be wrong), so without meaning to sound rude is it possible that you mistyped that one? |

I did hear Mark Saggers and Perry Groves say 'Hillsborough' and within about 20 or so seconds throw over to GL, but really my eyes and ears were diverted by the Tri Nations RU game on SSX. |

No worries Ian, thanks for posting the details you knew yesterday.
Onto today: - Sunday 26th July: talkSPORT Ian Danter presenting from Wembley alongside Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror. The Wembley Cup Barcelona v Al Ahly - Andy Clarke (reports) Tottenham Hotspur v Celtic - Jim Proudfoot & Jason Cundy (commentary), with Andy Clarke at pitchside Sounds like Clarkey was also used as a pitchside reporter on Spurs v Barca on Friday, as he did their post match interviews on the night. Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix - Graham Courtney |

One addition to the talkSPORT details for today, John Temple is reporting on the Sir Bobby Robson Trophy game between English and German XIs at St James's Park.

Interesting BBC Press Release today detailing two major changes to the BBC Radio Derby commentary team for the new season. Radio Derby signs Rams striking legend The crux of the press release is that Roger Davies, up until now the co-commentator on Ram FM's coverage of County, is joining Radio Derby to be their new Rams summariser now that Gary Rowett is taking up his new position as Burton Albion assistant manager. That's six summarisers Radio Derby have had since I started listening to the station - they sure do know how to get through them! ![]() Coincidentally, I wonder who'll replace Roger on Ram FM? Are they still doing Derby commentaries this season? However, what I found most interesting about the press release was this line: Quote:
Roger will sit alongside commentator Colin Bloomfield and veteran presenter Colin Gibson for all of the Rams games this season, beginning with the friendly against Stoke on 1 August.
Although it doesn't say as much explicitly, this for me confirms that - as I and others have speculated over the past few months - former Rams commentator Ross Fletcher has now left Radio Derby, his supposed sabbatical from the station is to become a permanent one, and he will no doubt move onto bigger and better things.Colin Bloomfield has also replaced Ross on the Radio Derby weekday drivetime show, and by the looks of his presenters page it reads as if he's there to stay. Where Ross goes from here remains to be seen - most probably he will either become a permanent member of the East Midlands Today presenting team, a full-time commentator on Radio Five Live or perhaps he will combine these two jobs (both of which he was seemingly doing on an interim basis last season). It wouldn't even surprise me if Ross pops up doing voiceovers or even commentary on the BBC's Football League TV highlights show next season - if Roger Johnson can get a MOTD commentary job with no TV commentary experience, why not Ross? I'm pleased for Colin Bloomfield too. Always rated him as a reporter from what I heard of him during his days on BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC WM and BBC Radio Stoke. He seems to have patiently waited for such a long time for BBC local radio to find him a club to cover on a permanent basis - hopefully he will prove a success as Derby commentator, although IMO it's a big ask to fill the shoes of someone of Fletcher's calibre and popularity. |

Ram won't be doing live commentary next season which is great news for Radio Derby as everyone will be listening to them.
Do you know if Ram FM will be providing reports on Derby County this season - if so, I wonder if Phil Matthews will be doing them or if he is off elsewhere? Also, will you (or anyone else) be listening to the aforementioned Derby v Stoke City friendly on Saturday? Personally I won't be able to, but would be interested to hear if anything is mentioned about Ross Fletcher leaving/confirming that Colin Bloomfield is the new "Voice of the Rams"/detailing how they plan to cover Burton as well as Derby this season. If anyone is going to be listening and can report back with details of the coverage team, plus any titbits of information that may be mentioned, it would be very much appreciated. Quote:

As the matches were postponed there is no archived report(s) on the website, but they did have reporters at both of Monday's quarter finals. |

Thanks for confirming that Dan.

Anyone listening to talkSPORT yesterday or today to see who was due to be reporting on that game - and today's Northamptonshire v Hampshire quarter final - if indeed they appeared on air? As the matches were postponed there is no archived report(s) on the website, but they did have reporters at both of Monday's quarter finals. |

Thursday 30th July: talkSPORT
The All Sports Show with Danny Kelly (joined by Darren Gough from Edgbaston during the first hour) UEFA Europa League, third qualifying round first leg Round-up from the "Europa League nerve centre" - Mark Donaldson Audi Cup Final Bayern Munchen v Manchester United - Dom McGuinness This "European nerve centre" they are doing rather than reports on individual matches is nothing new. talkSPORT had a reporter covering numerous games involving non-British clubs from (presumably) their home studio on Champions League Live/programmes taking place during UEFA Cup match rounds last season. Often this reporter would be Geoff Peters, if I remember rightly. |
