Private torrent tracker website..
Hi
I know this is a bit random and off topic - but don't know where to post this. I've just ordered a Lacie LaCinema Classic - to store all my dvd's and tv shows and general media on to watch on the tv. I've started converting my dvd's to xvid files, but realise that its a lot quicker to d/l them from torrent sites. As this is not breaking any law as I own all the dvds I would d/l - can anyone recommend a good private torrent tracker or invite me to one? Apologies if this is in the wrong section - but don't know where else to post. Thanks |

You won't last very long on private torrent sites if you don't share your bandwidth in return. |

Actually you do NOT own the movie or whatever is encoded into the ones and zeros on the disk. All you actually own is the bit of plastic it is made from.
What you have in regards to the content is a licence to view the material in it's original format. You have no rights whatsoever to convert that data into another format, make a copy or just about anything else. So it is totally irrelevant whether you own the DVD of the film you download. Unless the person/organisation you download from has the express permission of the holder of the copyright in the material it is illegal for them to make it available and in all likelihood illegal for you to download it. All the relevant bits of the law are on the Intellectual Property office (www.ipo.gov.uk) website if you have sufficient time to waste digging it up (not easy I know) Specific to this thread... http://www.ipo.gov.uk/types/copy/c-o...q-gen-peer.htm Now whether or not the copyright law is entirely fair in this digital age is another whole discussion but as it stands simply copying a copyright work even for your own personal use is unlawful. As is sharing said work without the permission of the copyright holder. I can see no point in continuing to make it illegal to copy a DVD or CD you have purchased to a media player device for your own use. And I do wonder if any one would actually be hauled in front of a court for doing so. So the law is in need of some reform really as far as I am concerned. But I am not so sure about torrents or P2P free for all. |
