You're a bit behind the times old bean. HD DVD players have been discontinued for a long long looooonnnnng time.

Bluray is the format going forward. It has been for the last 18months or so.

Perhaps he means the V+ or even SKYHD as a source of HD programming.

Doesn't need to be full HD, it will still give you wonderful HD from BluRay films - but ONLY from BluRay.

Well I'm not doing mind reading today, so I guess we will just have to be bloody awkward and expect that people mean what they write

As Nigel said, the images are much clearer even if the TV doesn't do the full resolution.

Quality wise, Blu-Ray is a HUGE improvement over SkyHD. Having seen Planet Earth on both, there is no contest.

SkyHD service whilst is still HD resolution-wise is bandwidth constrained, so a more compressed picture. That and the limitation of only 5.1 audio and poor compression make the audio much worse too.

That said, there is room for both. Get a PS3 and a SkyHD player, and you have the best of both worlds

Decent players start at about £150(just check see if itcan be upgraded to BD profile 2.0 or is that already)these machine can then play all the java encoded goodies.Films can start at about £10 up.If you can afford to then get a PS3 as these are full 2.0 compatible and you get a stonking game system at the same time

Yes they play normal DVD's, and as they has good quality scalers may give a slightly better picture than a normal DVD player.
