Apologies if this has come up before, but I always find it funny to label animals in this way.

Our cat used to get : "Heidi Jenkins, what are you up to in there ? On one occasion she somehow acquired a middle name too........"Heidi Jane Jenkins, I've caught you with your head in the rubbish...."

Do you do this ?

PS Our name isn't Jenkins before anybody asks, it sounds just as funny though.

Yes We have 2 cats and a dog and they all get the surname treatment... more so when they've done something wrong and are getting told off!!

The funny thing is when you go to the vets and they call your pet to go through to the consulting room "Sweetie Pie Jones please go to room 3"

Well the vet always calls out our cat's name with our surname attached so I suppose that must be her name.

She never answers to it,mind

Mine was just as wierd I used to get : "your daughter's crying, go and see what she wants".

I wouldn't mind but I've got four kids from a previous marriage and it always sounded bonkers to call a cat my daughter.

I think they're wired up differently to us

My last rabbit had the same name as my little cousin in those situations, which was mildly amusing.
The rabbit's full name was Nicholas X Rabbitt, but the vet insisted on Nicky Mallaha instead.

Our vet does this too. The cats are adopted members of the family, I have no objections.

I had a vet once that actually wrote to the cat to remind him that his booster was due.

I used to read the letter to the cat. He just looked at me and then started washing.

Our vets do that too, when we took our Easter Bunnies, Flopsy & Smudge the kids thought it was hilareous that they had the same last name as us

My twenty three year old son son never really forgave me for the time he took two of our rabbits to the vets and he suffered the indignity of having to walk across the surgery floor to to the call of "Blossom & Bubbles Warburton ?"

* Surname has been altered to spare him any further blushes as it's distinctive
He also refuses to walk our Shih Tzu's if one is wearing her pink coat or the other his khaki parka lol. I just find it hilarious

ours get surname treatment if they are misbehaving, and also when they are called in at the vets, Dudley seemed such a cute name, until its bellowed out across a waiting room!

My Mum calls all her 3 cats by her surname too. I felt a bit left out since I no longer live at home & my Mum remarried so they took on her new name
When my Stepdad used to arrive home from work he used to call to the cats 'Dad's home now'.
I think I must be their sister

Our vet does that. When the dog was a puppy, she got an invitation card - addressed to her by name - to a party for socialising pups. When my husband came home and asked if there had been any post, I was able to reply, straightfaced, 'only for the dog'.

My hamster is named after his father (apart from his middle name which my friend dared me to give him)

Lewis Bernard Hamilton.

Well I wish!

And my rabbits first name is his fathers surname. Murray, after Scott Murray (my favourite footballer - again I wish!)

However when I take them to the vets, they are both Murray and Lewis Smith (not my real surname, but the vet calls out my surname when they get called into the examining room)

My cat got a booster reminder yesterday - it was addressed to Bracken

We use surnames when the cats are being cheeky too. My mum's another one for using the "mum/dad" when talking to the cats. When my dad gets home she'll say "daddy's home!" but I think that's mostly in jest...I hope...

My OH and I have just adopted a new kitten. He's a Norwegian Forest so we called him Loki after the Norse god of mischief/trickery. I also liked the name Morten (after the lead singer of Aha!) so we've called him Loki Morten [Surname]. His housemate, Mork, has a middle name too as he had a Turkish breed name to begin with. I can never remember it, but his full name is something like Mork Fahrat [Surname].

I'm so cruel/sad

Awww, that's cute.
Love the name Morten I'm a massive a-ha fan myself & when my Mum got her 3 new kittens last year I tried to get her to name one after a band member Sadly she refused & said if I wanted to call one Morten, etc I should get one myself, except I live in a small first floor flat & feel it wouldn't be fair on a cat Never mind I see plenty of her cats anyway & I am the official 'pet sitter'.
